When are you going to be able to vote via text messaging?
And LOVE the show by the way.
The Emmy Awards are only voted on by a team of people who work in the same field and have also been nominated and/or received Emmys themselves. The panels of judges change annually and are the best way of judging, however, they may not have a piece of there own submitted in the same category during that voting year. They KNOW the art form and guide lines and are not easily swayed by emotion. My husband has been asked to vote on documentaries as that is included in his body of work;
Mia for sure hands down for outstanding Choreographer!!She never lets us down. All the others are great too but she is just amazing!! I get shivers, goosbumps and I cry tears of awww when I watch her routines!!
When is SYTYCD going to be nominated for Best Reality Series? The contribution to culture makes it deserving even if you don’t take the entertainment value into consideration!
Way to go, folks!
Congrats on the Emmy nominations!
Well deserved and a great achievement, kudos
to the whole staff.
Why didn’t you get a nomination for camera work?
Because you REALLY need to work on it. Stop with
all the camera cuts and the behind angles. It’s so
distracting and makes the show soooooo hard to watch.
Please, please try to get all of the group dances
from the front so we can view it as it is supposed
to be seen and leave the camera on the soloists
so we can watch them dance uninterrupted.
Congratulations, everyone deserves the cudos for putting on a beautiful show with so much talent.
Too bad you coldn’t get a link set up for each nomination so that I chould watch them again. I think I remember them all.
I loved all those numbers that got Emmy nods, but was really dissapointed that the Hometown Glory piece by Katie and Joshua didn’t get nominated, this was one of the most moving dances I’ve ever seen
Cat was robbed!
On last August Final evening, Ll’C declared that Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis and choregraphed by Tabitha & Napoleon was danced through their hart, a mediator to the dance floor, by Chelsea and Mark. I was very deeply touched by their dancing experience and acting and for me, the piece deserves an Emmy award. I am an unconditional of the program and this year is a great one in all aspects!
When the EMMY nominations were announced on the show, I got very excited. SYTYCD is my favorite show of all time(going back to early television of the late ’40s). I look forward to watching it & re-watching it every week. To me, it is the purest form of entertainment. AMAZING!
I hope you do a Filipino-inspired routine in the show.
I have already written mine. Was-it received? Thanks
can the nominated dances be posted on line? they were so beautiful I would like to watch them again.
GREAT JOB AND CONGRATS TO ALL THE NOMINEES!! LOVE ALL OF MIA MICHAELS ROUTINES. (TRAVIS DID AN AWESOME JOB LAST WEEK TOO) WOULD LIKE TO SEE A DVD COME OUT WITH ALL THESE DANCES ON IT AND SOME OF THE OTHER GREAT ONES TOO. LOVE SOTYCD. LOOK FORWARD TO IT EVERY WEEK THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT SHOW (AND WOULD LIKE TO LOOK FORWARD TO THAT DVD)
Absolutely deserved nominations. hope they win. kudos
Congrats to the most talented people in the business. This is my favorite show on TV. So glad you will be doing another season before another year passes by. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make DVDs of the seasons available for purchase. There are so many dances from last season and this season that I would love to watch over and over. PLEASE!!!
Why the dancers not recieving nomunations
I heartily agree with Sharon. SYTYCD is my favorite show, and I would love to have a DVD of the best performances from each year both pairs and group numbers.
Tyce Diorio is definitely deserving of an emmy nomination for his choreography of the dance for breast cancer. I’ve never been more touched by a piece. It was beautiful. I teared up throughout the whole dance.
I’m thankful that my daughter has been blessed to have taken classes at Company Dance from such an inspiring & wonderful choreographer. Tyce Diorio is great!!
I just wanted to comment on the Tyce Dioreo choreography on So You Think You Can Dance on 7/22….As a cancer survivor, that really hit home…I cried through the whole performance. It was very beautiful and it hit me very hard….. I wanted to be sure and let Tyce know it was a wonderful dance routine….
Thank you!!!
Tyce’s piece tonight was incredibly special. I watched a friend of mine, one of the most talented dancers I know, die of a brain tumor five years ago. This piece so clearly demonstrated the struggle for all effected by this terrible condition, as well as the importance of having someone to support the victim through the course of the disease. I can’t thank him enough for this piece. Mia Michaels’s comments were so true. It is truly a credit to your show.
Tonight’s routine by Tyce was AMAZING. I think all of America cried with the judges tonight. We have all been touched by cancer & to see this on a show like this again raises the bar for quality & quantity on television. WAY TO GO!!!!
(and go Kayla!!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!)
Thank you for giving me the gift of watching the dance by Tyce Diorio and danced by Melissa and Ade. Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. That is exactly how I felt after watching this dance. What a wonderful experience to see the beauty of the dance, and the important story it told. Thank you so much!
[...] it at our house. To celebrate the 100th episode, tonight they’ll be showing several of the 11 Emmy-nominated routines from the past 3 seasons. Give it a shot. There’s something to be gleaned from these [...]
[...] episode tonight, and I’m psyched. Favorite dances from last season — like, I dunno, the Emmy-nominated ones! — are coming back. Are the original dancers returning, too? Not sure, but I wouldn’t [...]
I love this show, true talent but Katie Holmes gimme a break she paid her way on. keep that chic off shes a stinker!
I can’t believe that Jeanette was voted off the show.. she was one of the best dancers on the show. I love watching this show every year … I am dissppointed the this year the public gets to vote on who leave the show… reminds me of american idol this year… wrong person won… the judges should hace the final say… since they are the dance experts…
Contratulations to all the nominees. Somewhere, someone forgot about the most deserving person of all – Cat Deeley. She is so far ahead of most of the MC nominees.
I enjoy watching the talented dancers and the choreographers work. However, I truly wish that Mary Murphy would learn how to speak correct English before she gives speeches post performance. I understand errors caused by extemporaneous speaking but this woman JUDGING people does not know how to speak correct English.
Congrats to all the Emmy nominees – LOVE the show! I would like to suggest that SYTYCD do a contest within the contest for up-and-coming choreographers that just need to get their foot in the door somehow. Maybe have the winner co-choreograph a number for the show?
Please come out with a DVD set of all seasons. There must be a way to get around the copyright on the music. Come on…you guys are missing the boat and a chance to MAKE MONEY!!!! You know you would get a ton of people buying them.
Not sure about the politics, but I find myself wondering why none of Sonya’s dances were nominated. Last season’s routine with Mark and Courtney to “the garden” RULED! Hope at least one of hers is recognized after this season.
I am disappointed that Jeanette was voted off. This was her first time in the bottom three and now she is gone! I think Melissa got lucky with Tyce’s routine. People voted for her because of the topic and choreography. She does her style very well, but give her hip-hop or anything “sexy” and she fails. Jeanette could do everything. I think the show should return to the judges choosing who is eliminated. Becoming more like American Idol is NOT a step in the right direction.
I am thrilled to see some of the dancers from previous seasons return. I would like to know what the winners of the last four seasons are doing currently.
Mary needs to tone it down. She is starting to get annoying.
I agree with Sharon and everyone else, SYTYCD should release DVDs of each season. There are so many dances I’d love to see again, especially from some of the early seasons. I’d buy them in a heartbeat.
I love everything about the show – I just wish both a male and female could each win. Huge thanks for the hours of entertainment.
Never let Shane Sparks take a break again. No hip hop choreographer has skills like him. Watch out for Lori Ann Gibson. Most of you were just introduced to her, but I have been following her for years. She is an extremely hard hitting, classy choreographer. She is going to knock you off her feet.
Hi. I always watched your show even though I am from other side of the world. I enjoyed it so much. When I was watching the performances, I was touched most by Tyce Diorio choreography about a cancer patient danced by MElissa and Ade. Wow.. It was unbelievably wonderful. It exactly gave a perfect portrait to someone who experienced cancer and to their love ones who helped those persons live… It was truly remarkable… This deserves an EMMY nomination next year.. Every one who understood the dance felt exactly what the judges felt.. Great JOB tyce, mel and ade…
Brandon,Ade,Jeanene&Kayla in the finale please .dont repeat Will & Chelsea elimination mistake again
I STRONGLY agree that this show has to come out on DVD! I need to see some of those amazing, heartwarming, goosebumps giving, tear jerking routines again and I want to share them with people who have never seen them.
Also I agree that Mary needs to tone it down….she really is getting annoying. It’s not funny anymore when you have too much of a good thing.
Thank you for this show! I love it!!!!!!!!!
Congrats on the nominations! I hope you guys win some more this year!
I’m absolutely iN LOVE WiTH THiS SHOW! [:
I think Jeanine is awesome and she is totally gonna win!!! <3
WAHOO!!! GO SHOW
Why Brandon & Evan got their styles not Ade in the top 6
Tell Mary to put a cork in it. The show is great, except for her screaming and ranting. She needs to tone it down a bunch.
I agree about the camera work. PLEASE just stop cutting and let us watch the whole group dance from the front, and focus on whoever we want to focus on. I can never tell who is who because of how fast the camera cuts away.
Also, I agree about the judges picking the eliminated. America doesn’t know what it’s doing, and great dancers go home too soon because they don’t have the bubbly personality that makes them stand out sooner.
And some of us have lives and can’t take two hours to vote, so pre-teens end up picking the winners.
OK. NOW I NO FOR SURE SOMETHING HER IS AMISS. EVAN SHOULD HAVE LEFT WITH MELISSA. NICE GUY AND ALL, BUT, BOTH HE AND MELISSA SHOULD HAVE GONE WEEKS AGO. JANNETTE AND JASON SHOULD HAVE REMAINED. ENOUGH OF THAT. YOU GUYS (PRODUCERS, JUDGES, ETC.) YOU REALLY SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THE SUGGESTIONS AFOREMENTIONED BY MANY OF THE BLOGGERS. THE SHOW IS LOSING ITS CREDIBILITY AND RESPECT RAPIDLY. THERE SHOULD BE FIRST PLACE FEMALE/MALE, THERE SHOULD BE CRITIQUES OF THE CHOREOGRAPHERS (IT APPEARS THEY MUST HAVE SOMETHING IN THEIR CONTRACTS FORBIDDING CRITICISM) SOME OF THEM CLEARLY SUCKED. ESPECIALLY SOME GIVEN TO JANNETTE. AT LEAST SONYA PLAYS TO THE STRENGTHS OF THE DANCERS. BE PREPARED FOR A RIOT IF BRANDON DOES NOT WIN. ALSO, BE PREPARED TO BE GONNNNNNE AND SAY BYEBYE TO SEASON SIX. DON’T WASTE THE TAPE. I REARRANGED MY LIFE TO WATCH THIS SHOW, BUT, AFTER THE BLATANT CLEAN UP AND SUBLIMINAL MANIPULATIONS OF THE VOTES BY THE JUDGES(THE SETTING UP OF MELISSA AND EVAN) I WILL BE TAKING MY LIFE BACK IF THINGS DON’T CHANGE IMMEDIATELY.
When are they going to put out a best of so you think you can dance dvd with the judges and fan favorties?
I absolutely love the show!! So much incredible talent and fantastic personalities. The format is fantastic and the choreography is originally stellar!
WHY Cat Deeley WHY!?!?
So many people tell me they can’t stand to watch or listen to her. I am not talking about the british accent when I say HER VOICE is like nails on a chalk board. Her social skills are terrible. Has anyone else noticed that she mocks the dancers and the judges in a very inappropriate way? She says the dumbest things in her attempts for casual conversation. She is a host for a dance show but has the most awkward stance and body language.
Replace her so I don’t HAVE to tivo the show to watch it. She is SO WRONG for this show. Why don’t you cast someone associated with the dance community? I hate to say anything bad about anyone personally, but I just had to share my frustration. I’ve suppressed this email for so long to try and keep a good heart about it. UGG! She is painful to watch.
America got it wrong with the elimination of Ade! He is an amazing dancer, whose solo’s were outstanding and far above anything that Evan brought to the dance floor. He met the challenges and heightened all of his partners performances. It is astonishing that he would not make it to the finals. He should have won the entire competition!!!
Changes that need to be made – One male and one female winner. When the competition is down to six, dancers perform there own dance style with their partner (they would still be performing two dances. Judges vote the entire show with their vote counting for 50% for the last eight performers. Finally, being able to vote by text or internet.
Firstly, I find most emcees slightly annoying but Cat doesn’t really bother me. Her voice does not grate on me as one writer above wrote.
Yes, I, too, wish that the judging was done completely by the judges. But, the title of the winner is America’s Favorite Dancer not America’s most skilled or talented dancer so the viewers are choosing their favorites and this may or may not mean the best dancer. If the most skilled is what the public really wants, as many of us do, then the judges should be doing all or most of the judging.
I love the show despite its several (in my mind) flaws and will continue to live a dancer’s life vicariously through these talented youngsters.
America is wrong for voting off Jeanette. I agree with all of the judges that she should have won, or at least been in the finals. Ade was also an amazing dancer that should not have been voted off yet. SYTYCD is the best in television entertainment, and I can hardly wait for season six. Thanks to all of the hard working choreographers we get to watch all these excellent dancers at their best. I also agree with all of the other posts to bring out DVD’s for purchase if possible. I would love to be able to watch my favorite dancers over and over again. Love the show, and thanks to all of you who give me a reason to look forward to Wednesdays and Thursdays. Good luck to the finalists.
I was very disappointed to see that Cat Deeley was not nominated under the newly created Host of Reality and Competition Show Emmy Award Category. Besides her stunning physical appearance and flawless preparedness of presentation, Cat possesses a warmth and empathy for the dancers that is critical to their success and to the survival of the show from year to year. It is important that new dancers are motivated to turn out for auditions and feel the cast and crew are “on their side” and Cat symbolizes and communicates that sentiment. She also works very well with a range of personalities and styles (and egos) of guest choreographers and judges. Hopefully this oversight will not continue next year!! This show as I have said before, goes beyond just being great entertainmnent, it is leaving its mark on the American culture and the art of communication media. It will stand out well beyond any of the other reality shows as a landmark to dance and performing arts
for this century.
Does Cat have to maul every contestant? All that touchy feely stuff is unprofessional and disrespectful and insincere when it happens constantly.
Hands off.
So You Think You Can Dance missed it’s Emmy Nomination for Best Reality competition but will try again next year. America’s favorite dancer is the most talented all type performers.
The semi final was the most subpar performances of any SYTYCD season;BORING! Any other season dancers in top10 would kill these final 4.
Agreeing with others on the criticism of the camera work. The cinematographers need to seriously tone things down and simplify things. I’m currently watching the finale, and the constant cutting and poorly chosen shots have been distracting in several dances, and I feel like I’m missing some of the best parts of the dances because they’re cutting away during the middle of a crucial moment.
Can we add the drug addiction piece and the breast cancer piece to the awards for next year.
I also agree with Michael Vogt about the camera work. Sometimes it makes my head spin and I feel like I miss some key moments of the dance. Stop spinning me around. If I should see the dancers backs during the “bollywood” routine, don’t swing the camera to their front. This would be a good note to take for next season.
I 100% agree with the comment about the winner. There should be a BOTH a male and female winner even if they each only get 1/2 the prize money. BOTH Brandon and Jeanine deserved to win more than any season I have seen.
I am terribly disappointed with the winner this year. The show should be based on the “best dancer” not the “favorite dancer,” because I believe (and know that everyone else does also) that Brandon was the best dancer and Jeanette was the second best. These young people work hard and compete based on the best performance that they can give, not the most favored. And, when you recap the total season, Brandon never had a flaw and never had to dance for his life. Jeannine winning was a joke and all who watched the show this year knows it. I really hope that the judges take back their roles and judge future dancers based on the “best” not the most “favored.” We get enough of this in our everyday lives.
I agree … we need DVDS with the best acts from every season! I missed season one and would love to catch up on it.
This has been a bad year for my favorite reality shows as I don’t think America got it right for any of them. Jeanette should have won this year and Brandon runner up. They could both do ANY dance and make you believe. The judges had it right.
SYTYCD for best reality show! Host, choreographers, make up, costumes but not production … I agree the camera work is irritating.
Please help Cat by getting her a better wardrobe!!! She deserves much better! The pantsuit was the best this year! Honestly, she does have a figure you could flatter without huge shoulder pads, baggy dresses, and short-short outfits! I agree with others about the camera work – be still on occasion and show the entire dance, please! Judges should keep 50% of the entire vote after the first 10 are elimated! They have the expertise to critique the dancers, not just the routine or personality! Mary really needs to tone it down A LOT! Her screams are extremely painful to the ears! The silent scream worked great! Choose your choreographers carefully – no more Russian folkdances, please – that really hurts the dancers’ chances! Charisma should be part of the entire package, some of the dancers are fabulous athletes but not necessarily the most talented dancers! PLEASE try to find a way to allow your viewers to purchase the entire season 1-5! It seems that a mutually beneficial profit could be shared BY EVERYONE in regard to copyright infringements! I MEAN VERY PROFITABLE!!! Your viewers would forever be grateful to give you our money for the pleasure of the dancers’ talents being available to watch again and again and again…I HOPE YOU READ THIS AS IT IS MY FIRST EVER RESPONSE TO ANYTHING ONLINE…I ADORE SYTYCD!!! May your efforts and all the dedicated dancers continue to thrill and inspire viewers for years to come…
I’m so glad SYTYCD received the nominations. AND, I’m GLAD it’s going to be on again in the fall – it is one of a very few television shows that I look forward to watching…Thank you SYTYCD for lifting me up for a few hours every week.
This show is the best thing that has happened for the dance industry!! Finally real talent is being recognized!! The Choreographers are amazing! Thanks so much for the brilliance and artistry of Mia, Tyce, Demitry, Travis and Sonya! What an incredible body of work and creativity they bring to the show each week! Cat Deeley is an absolute delight, I was shocked to read negative comments about her. I really appreciate Nigel’s, Mia’s and Debbie Allen’s critiques. They really can add value to the dancer’s improvements. Going to see you in Tallahassee in October–I can’t wait!!! Please, please do the Calle’ Ocho routine–that was truly HOT, HOT, HOT!!! Thanks for bringing the show back so soon and not having such a long wait!! I never miss a show! Each season you continue to raise the bar and the dancers’ talent is mindblowing!
Cat Deeley should be nominated for host. Why has she never been nominated. She’s much more involved with the contestants than they are on American Idol!
During the final show, I was very pleased to hear from Adam Shankman that Kayla was in the Special Group of Dancers with Travis Wall, Will, Danny and… I was fascinated by Miss White Lighting during the whole program and there is no doubt that she was the best perfect dancer even if Brandon and Jeanine were also excellent+. Kayla was by far my favorite perfect dancer and she was probably too perfect to be the favorite…
[...] my socks off. Sure there have been a few really good numbers, but in comparison to past season’s Emmy-worthy numbers, it’s just not stacking up [...]
