Janette and Jason Eliminated

Janette & Jason, each with Cat Deeley
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” CELEBRATES 100TH EPISODE
Top 6 Dancers Battle for Spot in Finale Wednesday, July 29, on FOX
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE celebrated its milestone 100th episode tonight with a special performance by actress and Dizzy Feet Foundation founding member Katie Holmes along with the return of fan-favorite and Emmy Award-winning dance routines from previous seasons. This evening’s celebration followed Wednesday’s performance show, which featured Emmy Award-winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and Emmy Award-winning choreographer Mia Michaels as guest judges.
Two more finalists went home tonight after host Cat Deeley revealed that Janette Manrara and Jason Glover received the fewest of America’s votes. Manrara, 25, is a Salsa dancer from Hialeah, FL, and Glover, 21, is a Lyrical/Contemporary dancer from Fresno, CA.
Next week, in the penultimate performance show airing Wednesday, July 29 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, the Top 6 dancers (Brandon Bryant, Evan Kasprzak, Jeanine Mason, Ade Obayomi, Kayla Radomski and Melissa Sandvig) will compete for a coveted spot in the finale.
The following night, Jamaican dancehall superstar Sean Paul will sing his new hit, “So Fine,” and dance troupe JabbaWockeeZ will perform before America’s Top 4 dancers are revealed on the live results show Thursday, July 30 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed).
The two-night season finale of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE promises to be an event you won’t want to miss! The Top 4 will compete one last time in the hopes of winning America’s vote and the title of America’s Favorite Dancer, a $250,000 cash prize and a featured spot on the cover of the November issue of Dance Spirit magazine. Broadcast from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, the finale will air at a special time Wednesday, Aug. 5 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, Aug. 6 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.

OMG, I love Janette. She’s never had a bad review and always pushed herself beyond perfection … standing ovations and all. Incredible. Popularity contest syndrome.
Last night makes me wonder what the American voters are looking for pretty outfits, just the good or bad routines? Janette was clearly the strongest dancer with the ability to do any kind of dance style thrown at her… she should have not been eliminated last night. She should have not even been in the bottom two. I think she should have been the last dancer standing, on the final episode, making her the So U think U can Dance winner! Makes me think America is on drugs when they vote.
Done watching for the season, Janette should have not gone hoome, what was America thinking!
Katie Homes was bad!!!! I think she needs some lesson. She would never get a scholarship from dizzyfeet.
I believe that one call per household should be established for all of these types of shows. It is clear that it is a popularity contest and not a contest of who is truly the more talented dancer. Evan is still in it???? Jeanette is gone??? I almost don’t want to watch anymore.
I am so disappointed that Janette got eliminated. She is such a great dancer, was never in the bottom before, and always got great reviews on ALL performances! Then, in the bottom once and sent home! It all happened so fast. What a shocker! I think Janette is the best dancer I have ever seen on SYTYCD and extremely talented. I hope she got noticed and has many opportunities to pursue her dancing career — as she said last night this is her calling. No doubt she is meant to dance and dazzle others with her performances.
The final is going to be crappy!Jason was the best.
I just wonder if it takes knowing more about dance to be able to judge? In our house, we’re wishing that the judges still had a say. What the hell is Evan, cute though he be, still doing there?!
Seriously? Evan NOT in the bottom two? It is shocking and appalling. Love the guy, but this is a dancing competition and he doesn’t hold a candle to any of the men that have been in the bottom 2 in the last 3 weeks. What is going on? There’s no comparison. Apparently he has a huge network of family and friends that just call repeatedly until the clock runs out of time. Brandon in the bottom two is ludicrous and certainly Janette going home is as well. They are the two top dancers in my opinion. I don’t even feel like watching anymore. Last night it became a joke.
Not at all what I expected last night. A huge hug for both Janette and Jason. Great job from both dancers who are
really so talented. You both will become career dancers
and be very successful. All the dancers left are incredible
how can people even pick “The Best” anymore?
My hope is that each dancer will be able to do solos with
help from the choreographer of their choice from here on.
Wouldn’t that be something to watch!!!!!!!
The dancer could pick their own music and style and
REALLY be able to show what makes them unique.
Rock on Kayla! I’m hoping you take the top spot.
Janette was my favorite. She was the best girl this year and shouldn’t have been sent home. The voters got it wrong. Janette is extremely talented and has done consistently well every week getting better and better and doing anything that has been thrown her way. This was so upsetting. And Brandon should never have been in the bottom 2. Evan is great, but it’s his time to go.
I can not believe Janette is gone
Last night was a say show. I have never been so disappointed with this show. Janette is gone………….crazy. She is the best dancer on the show. Evan still there……wow. What is America watching????? I done with this season, the best dancer will not win, Guarantee!!!
In 5 years this was the most disappointing result. The voting procedures do need to be changed one per phone/household would create a more accurate outcome. I agree with all the above comments regarding Janette. She brought it all! I also do not understand why Evan is still there. This show has contributed so much to dance, it’s sad to see it culminate in a popularity contest.
Keep dancing Janette. You have a gift!
Done watching for the season, Janette should have not gone home, the judges should be able to pick who gets kicked off from the bottom two. It sucks that the bad dancers get to stay and the best dancer gets kicked off.
Maybe next year the top ten dancers should get to pick their choreographer. It just seems that any of the dancers that are in the top ten would have a free pass for the tribute to breast cancer survivors it was just great choreography.
I would guess the ratings will go done for next week since the best dancers is off the show.
Janette was clearly the best trained dancer in the bunch and has been from the beginning. America voted on the dance not the dancers.
I agree with another comment that only one vote per household should be permitted. The females are so good that it’s hard to choose which one to vote for, but Janette was fabulous. Unfortunately for Jason, Ellen’s and Mia’s ranting about Evan’s odd looks got him sympathy votes and kept him in the show. Mia also hurt Jason with her bogus critique about his shoulders on a jazz routine that he was absolutely great in. Jason was robbed. Evan should have gone home. I am pulling for Ada’ and Brandon.
Also, I think that the judges should start to critique the choreographers. On many nights the choreography just sucks period. A good teacher gets the desired result. From what I have seen this season the students are all A students. Thus, the teachers have been at or below average.
I second everything Amy said! She took the words right out of my mouth. I was so disgusted last night. I have to say I didn’t care for Jeanette at the beginning of the season. However, her dancing abilities won me over! She is amazing!! She should have been the winner this year.
It’s crazy that the bottom 4 last night had the 4 best dancers of the season and then janette the best dancer was voted off. I’m not watching any longer. Evan isn’t even in the same universe as the other dancers.
WHAT A JOKE… Janette and Jason sent HOME!!!!!! America GOT IT WRONG….. WAAAAAYYYY WRONG…. Melissa stayed because the judges cried with her routine… Yes it was beautifully danced lots of emotions BUUUUUT and a HUUUUUUGE BUT… IT DOES NOT TO MAKE HER AMERICA’S FAVORITE NOR BETTER DANCER… Janette is WAAAAAAAYYYYY more VERSATIL than Melissa… Janette should have stayed… Melissa should have gone home with Evan (another good dancer… but not versatil enough… he was saved by ellen and mia)… Mia PLEEEASE PLEASE since you are MY “simon cowell” of SYTYCD… (toughest judge but everything you say is so right on the mark… people hear ‘ya & think the dancer doesn’t need the vote…) so when you have a favorite dancer don’t say it too loud… every time you have a favorite they go home (same thing happened with allison… think it was 1st or second season…danced with Ivan)…. LOVE ‘YA MIA (Nygel, Mary love ya too!!!!) Now for all three judges… Please TRY TO APLLY REVERSE PSYCOLOGY… when you have or want an amazing dancer (like Janette) to stay don’t praise them so much on the contrary tell them they didn’t perform so good… The first thing that you’ll accomplish with that is the audience (big percent not too smart … proved last night) will vote for that dancer because they feel bad for the dancer been put down AND second an even better “consequence” of the reverse psychology the dancer will work even harder to not be one of the bottom ones…
!!!!!Again I love ‘ya!!! Maru (with a “U” not a “V”)
Bogus! There’s something wrong when the top two woman dancers (Janette and Kayla) are in the bottom two. America’s “favorite” dancer is a cop out for a flawed selection process. I’d rather see the judges involved.
I’m out for the rest of the season. A shame as I thought this had been the best yet.
The show has definately taken a turn for the worse, the judges should still make the final decision after America votes. And Katie Holmes was bad, someone with so much dance experience should have been alot better than she was. Thanks for bringing Hawk back, very enjoyable.
One more item, FOX should put all of the seasons on DVD!
I think that Janette was- is the best dancer in the compettiton I don’t what America is looking at or voting for
This is completely bias. You should never allow some one to Choreograph an emotional piece that touches so many people for a couple dancers. The Breast Cancer should have been a GROUP dance.
Because you gave such an Emotional dance for two dancers that should have been in the bottom, you lost two contenders. Crazy. Judges said it best, we can’t talk about your dancing on such an emotional piece.
it was becuz of me jason went home i for got to vote that night sorry man
I am extremely disappointed with last night’s results, I can’t believe that Janette was eliminated, she was the strongest dancer. I thought this was about the best dancer… I guess NOT, I like Ade and Melissa was ok. but they only got the vote because of the cancer dance. THEY DID NOT DESERVE TO STAY, THEY WERE IN THE BOTTOM TWO THE PREVIOUS WEEK….. SIMPATHY VOTES…
My husband and I were astonished that Janette was eliminated; She was the best, I don’t know how either of Janette, Kayla or Brandon got on to bottom they are the best dancers. Melissa & Evan should have gone. Giving up on the show,,,, this is not about the best dancers. “Upset and Disappointed on the events”
Shocked is an understatement! I don’t personally know any of the dancers and yet believe Janette was the best over all. This 100th episode was a huge disappointment.
The judges should truly reevaluate how the elimination is done. This is suppose to be about dancing, not popularity and that’s what its come down too.
Judges take a stand! Let America have their say, but you are the experts and this is about “the best dancer.”
This was my favorite show, but last night proved as long as your popular it really doesn’t matter how you dance and that’s sad.
No disrespect to the others I think their all wonderful dancers and will go far in life, which they rightfully deserve. However, the judges let America down by not caring how America is really voting and not doing anything to stop or change it. How very disappointing.
Wait, so Evan’s still in and Janette is at home watching? mmm… the producers should cheat when they get results like these… i really thought it was gonna be Evan and Melissa… no matter the cancer piece or the cute unique face.
I agree with Marco; I am extremely disappointed with last night’s results, I can’t believe that Janette was eliminated, she was the strongest dancer. I thought this show was about the best dancer… I guess NOT, I like Ade and Melissa was ok. but they only got the vote because of the cancer dance. THEY DID NOT DESERVE TO STAY, THEY WERE IN THE BOTTOM TWO THE PREVIOUS WEEK….. SIMPATHY VOTES…
Sad to see the best dancer of the season voted out: Jeanette. Sad to see the production of the show let the breast cancer routine compete in an elimination show. Come on guys, this is a “for sure vote”. In this case people voted for the good cause that it is the fight against breast cancer, not for the real talent of the competitors. Maybe something to think about for future seasons. Also, I strongly believe the American public should not decide on who stays and who goes. It’s OK to use the public vote to find who the button 2 dancers are but it should be the judges deciding and saying the last word. Very, very disappointed about today’s results
Janette leaving means I will stop watching. The judges should have the power to veto a removal when a travesty like this occurs. Melissa is a good dancer, but she was the one that needed to go. Janette never made a false move. I give up on the show.
My mother is an ovarian cancer survivor, and the piece Melissa and Ade did touched me and my wife so much. My wife lost her mother to cancer many years before I met her, so it doubly affected her. Thank you so much So You Think You Can Dance for such a touching tribute to those who are suffering this terrible disease.
Janette should never had been in the bottom 2. She was simply an amazing dancer. I have to admit, I vote for every dancer every week, at least once, more if their routine was good. I do have a couple favorites, and vote a few more times for them.
I have a theory as to why Janette was eliminated. Since she had never been in the bottom, the callers thought she was safe, and had enough votes to continue. This is how it happened, IMHO.
Bottom line, Janette should not have been eliminated last night. Week after week she impressed me with her talent. She did a great job with every style she was given.
This part of the season is always a little frustrating because the outcome is not necessarily based on overall performance. Hopefully the exposure that she has gotten from the show will open doors for her.
While I agree that all the dancers are talented, the fact of the matter is that some are more gifted than others.
Well Said: A Lopez
Nigel needs to talk with the ballroom choreographers; they continue to leave competitors at risk because the ballroom routines are so “ho-hum!” Janette paid the price last night.
It really seems like the producers are spoon feeding Melissa to the top. She’s never really had to go very far from her comfort zone, and then she just happens to get paired again with Ade the night Tyce just happens to be doing a big dramatic dance for breast cancer? Of course it was a beautiful piece, but without the explenation as to the inspiration for it, it would not have had nearly as big an impact, and I don’t think the results would have been the same, I don’t think we would have found Jeanette in the bottom. The producers are making it just a little too easy for Melissa to keep getting by.
Janette’s talent and charisma will carry her much farther than just SYTYCD top 8. I was always impressed by the way she was always cheering for everyone else and always had such a great attitude. She is stunning beauty both on stage and off and it was unfortunate that Evan picked her name out of the hat. Ah well, she had some incredible pieces throughout the season and I am sure she will be highlighted on tour. She was my favorite dancer. Congrats on a job well done!
I THINK THE JUDGING NEEDS TO GO BACK TO THE JUDGES…..
TOO MANY KIDS VOTING AND THEY ARE VOTING POPULARITY….
IT IS NOT FOR THE BEST DANCER…..
IT IS NOT FAIR TO THOSE WHO DESERVE IT…..
YOU CAN STILL HAVE THE PEOPLE PARTICIPATE AND VOTE FOR THE BOTTOM 2 OR 3 BUT LET THE JUDGES HAVE THE FINAL SAY…..
IT WILL MAKE THE SHOW MORE REPUTIABLE……
IT WILL START GOING DOWN THE TUBES IF IT GOES ON LIKE THIS.
WHAT DO THESE KIDS KNOW THAT ARE VOTING…THE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PICK THE BEST OVERALL DANCER…..
AGAIN, IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE KIDS ON THE SHOW THAT WORK THERE BUTTS OFF…….
YOU WANT TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR ALL THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATIONS THESE DANCERS HAVE PUT IN ALL THEIR LIVES.
NOT TO VOTED OUT , BECAUSE WHOMEVER VOTING MAY OR MAYNOT LIKE THEM…..THAT IS NOT FAIR…..
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE LET IT GO INTO THE JUDGES HANDS….
THEY ARE THE EXPERTS NOT US……………..
What a load of rubbish! This is the first and most probably last season I watch of this show. There is something absolutely wrong when the best dancer in a competition, who has never been in the bottom, gets suddenly eliminated, and a supposedly jazz/Broadway dancer who can’t even do his own style that greatly is still on.
Melissa has been given all sorts of perks (*cough*ballet routine*cough*), not to mention that cancer routine. As awesome a ballerina as she is, all you needed to do was to compare her cha cha with that of Janette’s.
I agree, Evan and Melissa are the weakest of the top 8. I feel bad when they start picking Evan’s dancing apart and I cried too for the cancer routine, but in the end it should be about the best dancers, NOT the SYMPATHY VOTE!! Where is Simon Cowell when you need him! I hope Jason and Jeanette kick butt in the real world. They clearly deserved to stay. PRODUCERS TAKE NOTE, NO SYMPATHY ROUTINES!!!!!!
Well I agree with every that it is very sad to see two very talented dancers go, I was not expecting either of them to get sent home. But the fact of the matter is that they did and I don’t believe everyone should get so bent out of shape because I’m sure both of them are going to have very successful careers in the field of dance. As for the dancers still on the show I think they are all very talented as well and deserve to be on the show, are all of them my favorites, no, but they are some of America’s favorites. That’s what the purpose of the show is, to find America’s favorite dancer not the “Best” or the “Most Talented” but the favorite therefore the final decision must come down to the American public.
I myself am a dancer. Although I am only in my 6th year of training I have made it my life’s passion because I love doing it and it is an art that has the ability to touch many peoples hearts and souls in a varity of ways. That is why I love this show so much because it has the ability to present dance for what it truely is, a universal language through movement and that to me is beautiful. I commend all the choreographers, dancers, judges, producers, etc. of SYTYCD for the great job that they are doing and I thank you for doing wonders to the dance world. I would love to meet every single one of you if I could and maybe one day I will.
I am extremely disappointed with the results show. Just watching Jason’s montage and comparing it to Evan says enough. As for Janette- I agree with Nigel and would have loved to see her win the season with her overall talent and spunky personality. I think the voting/judging system is flawed and should be adjusted to allow only one vote per household with judges having veto power to decide who is actually the best dancer and not the cutest or had the best choreographed dance of the previous evening.
very dissapointed with janette being sent home have watched the show since the first episode and have never seen a dancer take on every routine and nail it every time. Mia Michaels even said Janette was her fav and so did Nigel I like Melissa but she is not an all around dancer and she deserved to go the breast cancer piece was beautiful but can she do hip hop or ball room no way, like Nigel said last nite Janette should have won the whole thing she deserved it.
Are you kidding me?? I am in total shock!! I am so disappointed. I cannot believe Jeanette is gone. I truly believe she should have won the season!!! I wish that the judges had more to do with the results at this point!!! It is simply a popularity contest… wow.. thats really all I can say..
I am so disappointed that Janette got eliminated. What is America thinking? And Evan is still in it. Really? Never been in the bottom and now she’s gone. Wow, this is so wrong.
I too was shocked at the two who were sent home last night. Jeanette has clearly been the best dancer all along, although not my favorite. I can definitely see why Evan is still there. He is a talented dancer in a style often overlooked today. He also has something very loveable about him that makes you want to root for him. But back to Jeanette and Jason, I truly believe people felt they were such shoo ins, that they voted for their second choice, figuring everyone else was already voting in Jeanette and Jason! After all, Jeanette had been called the best and Jason compared to Gene Kelly! Surely people thought they were safe because everyone else was voting for them, so they voted to save their second favorite!
janette best dancer on sytycd. PERIOD.
done watching this season that’s for sure.
So so so so sad that Janette is gone.
She was the perfect candidate to win this year.
She is the best dancer this season so far
Please bring back Janette in some way! This was most certainly not her time to go. America got it wrong, and it was obvious. I really hate that someone had to go this week more than ever so far this season. This is not the way that the 100th episode should have ended. I feel the exact same way as Nigel.
I said before that once the Top 10 has been chosen, there should be a “save” where, on the results show, once the male and female contestants with the lowest votes have been announced, the jidges can save them, and no one would be eliminated that week, but only once in the entire season. This would be the week to use it, meaning there would still be 8 contestants next week, instead of 6. And I also said earlier that contestants who make the Top 20 but do not go to the finale should be allowed to re-audition in a later season.
I really know how heartbroken Nigel was after what just happened on the 100th episode.
For Season 6, I think there should be some slight rule changes that will make it less likely that shocking eliminations such as this one will occur, such as the “save” that I mentioned.
I really hope Janette re-auditions for Season 7 (because Season 6 is in September, and that will be during the Season 5 tour), and makes it to the Top 20, if possible.
Janette, wherever you are, and whatever you do, I wish you really good luck in the future, but please come back to this show, whether it be to competition in a later season or a guest performance anytime. At least she is still going on tour, which she DOES deserve.
I wish Jason good luck in the future, too.
I voted for Melissa 1,136 (one thousand one hundred and thirty six) times using phone votes, because I thought her breast cancer routine was great and inspires anyone who experiences or has experienced breast cancer to battle it as much as possible, and never give up hope. Us voters need to try to vote more for her and get her in the finale, so that we can have a ballerina in the finale, and especially if her voting number is 1-888-TEMPO-01.
I thought that the routine with Katie Holmes and the routines with the previous seasons’ contestants were great, too. Maybe she will some back sometime next season and perform on a results show. This 100th show was definitely bittersweet for me, and perhaps millions of other people too.
But no matter what happens, the show must go on. Good luck to the Top 6, and let’s hope the viewers get it right next time, and hope something will be done about Janette’s elimination sometime in the future. Voters, remember, it will be the week before the finale (which is claimed to be “the cruelest cut of all”), and only six people remain, so please vote honestly and wisely. Until next week, take care!
Shocked about Jeanette. Although I like Jeanine, I think it would have been great to see Jeanette and Kayla compete as the top two women. I’m not sure who would have won, but it would have been a heated competition.
Note to the producers: Maybe next season you should have the choreographers teach the same routine to multiple couples at this point in the competition, so that the public has something to compare when choosing who they believe is the better dancer. If there are 6 couples – have 3 routines, 4 couples – have 2 routines. Just a thought.
I am shocked out of my mind! I too thought this week’s eliminations would likely be Melissa and Jason. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED!!!??? Jeanette was clearly THE strongest female dancer.
Janette & Jason were our favorites…too bad their fans did not call/redial enough times, and Canadians like us couldn’t vote. Also, their routines were unfairly overshadowed by breast cancer dance routine, which should have been an exhibition instead of competitive part of the show.
In the past two seasons I have learned to appreciate dancers and something about what makes them great. All of the top 10 this season are great, but the shows format lost the greatest. All 4 of the ladies should have gotten more votes than the men. Let the choreographers show us something good with same gender partners. From now on and for as many seasons coming, I will only vote for the best dancer of the night.
I expected Jeanette to go last night given that it was a choice between her and Kayla who SHOULD be final winner. Same for elimination of Jason over Brandon.
Jeanette is a salsa dancer. She has performed extremely well in the other genre which makes it difficult to believe she had no training in the other disciplines.
I too, am very disappointed about last night’s results. The two that should have gone home were Melissa and Ade – so many times they received bad reviews, but wait, let them dance a routine that’s associated with breast cancer and they become instant stars! Not in my book!!! If it wasn’t announced that the routine was about breast cancer, how many people out there would have known? Then you would have found them in the bottom two and they would have been gone. People sure didn’t vote for the most talented!!! On top of it all, putting Kayla in the bottom two was so wrong!!!!
When I think about this season’s top 8 dancers, it was hard to decide who should be voted off next. These top 8 are all so talented. At this stage, I thought Evan and Melissa were the weakest dancers – over the whole season. But two had to get the lowest votes.
Next week won’t be any easier deciding who should make the top 4 and the finale.
I think the show should not pit the men and women against each other; I’d like to see America’s Favorite Female and Male Dancer, with a top prize for a woman and a man. Come on, Fox… this show can surely afford another first place prize.
Wow! Really? It is time to take a serious look at the rules of the game here. Maybe take a hint from American Idol and let the judges “save” a dancer of their choice when things go so wrong as they did last night. Janette was the obvious winner. Up until now I felt as though this show, more than any other, had integrity and upheld a certain standard. Sadly this was all lost last night. Start making changes right now, because your show is losing viewers, and more importantly people who will support your causes. Very sad. Let’s be honest, clearly Evan and Melissa needed to go. I am done watching.
It truley sucks to see Jason go. He was my favorite from the start. I wish him the best. love you Jason!
I agree with Marco and A Lopez !!! Jeanette should not have gone home!!!!!! Producers PLEASE take back the final decision. America does not know dance if they can send Jeanette home. She and Brandon are the obvious best dancers in the final 8! Mia Michaels even told America who the winner was for her. Although they’re all so good it’s going to be hard to watch the show after this hugh mistake! I’m not sure I can remain a fan. NIGEL PLEASE TAKE BACK FINAL DECISIONS!!!!!!!!! Jeanette you’re truely an incredible STAR!!!
AMERICA GOT IT ALL WRONG LAST NIGHT!!!! I was just shocked with last nights vote off – in both the guys and girls contest. The bottom 2 for each were waaaaaayyyyy off. What is wrong with this contest. It is a contest of dancing not popularity. Sad to see them go!
Last nights elimination show was a total bust.America could not have gotten it more wrong. Granted Melissa and Ade did a wonderful job on their performance BUT the majority of the votes that they received probably came from people who have had or who knows someone who has had Cancer. Many people were home crying along with the judges and audience members BUT this is a dance show NOT a vote for who can make more people at home cry. Before the results show even aired I knew that that performance gaurenteed them staying on the show. They have talent AGREED but an issue as sad and as harmful as Cancer should not have been the reason why people were voting. It was a bad move by the show and certainly unfair to the other dancers. If Melissa and Ade can live with themselves for the way they got those votes well then OH WELL I guess people will do anything to win. It’s a down right shame though, what was a teriffic show has most definitely lost it’s appeal to me and I will no longer watch it.Nigel and the producers should have made it a NON ELIMINATION round for obvious reasons but they didn’t.They should correct it by bringing back the eliminated dancers from last night.
I can’t help but think that with Mia keep saying that Janette was her favorite that it influence a lot of people not to vote for her. I don’t think America likes Mia as a judge and her comments whether they are accurate or not. At least that’s the impression I’m getting.

Jeanette you were the best!! I loved watching you dance. America has it all wrong. All the girls are terrific. And loosing any of them would be sad, but I really thought Jeanette was going to win it all. She should have!! The judges really should instigate some kind of “save” for the show. If they can’t implement if for this season they should for the next ones. As for the Katie Holmes thing, blah! Too much hype over something so simple. I think I could have done what she did. It just wasn’t 100th episode worthy.
Ithink you can consider to repeat this week vote again, We think it was not fair specially for Janette the results to vote her out, because the same day and at the same time that She was dancing her couple dances and Solo at the same time president OBAMA was televised in the other channels talking about the Health Insurance, so most probably a lot of people didn’t vote for her because they didn’t had the chance or opportunity to see her and Jason dancing, paying attention to President Obama please re-considered to give her and Jason another chance.
I don’t vote at the end of every show; I DVR the show and watch later, but last night I did vote. First time in over a month. I voted about 4 times for Janette. I voted for everyone in our household. I also think I shouldn’t vote any more than that. Seeing that some one has voted over a thousand times (how do they manage to find the time?), boggles my mind. Anyway, seeing Janette end her run with such dignity, grace, and honesty, I know I saw the superior dancer. I am looking forward to seeing her in other shows. What a great dancer!
Good Luck, Janette, we will be looking for you!
I can’t say anything other than I am incredibly disappointed with this turn of events. This was Janette’s first time in the bottom, and she’s gone? I have every confidence that had there not been such an impacting, important piece of choreography given to Melissa, she would have gone home. Her solo was unimpressive, and she’s just too much a ballerina to win this competition.
I am so disappointed that a through and through incredibly dancer like Janette was sent home in place of the one-trick pony. I think the producers of this show should reconsider when to show such performances. A Thursday routine? Absolutely. I think that impacting pieces such as Tyce’s should absolutely be on the show.
Should it be an elimination piece? No. Absolutely not. They did not vote for Melissa or Ade, they voted for the piece.
Very sad.
It is really a shame that the most talented dancer (Jeanette) was eliminated. All the girls are really great but Jeanine and Melissa should have gone home before Jeanette. Also, Evan should have also been eliminated. I thought they were chosen based on their dancing ability. What a shame the most talented dancer is already gone. Good Luck Jeanette you are fantastic
I have voted consistantly for both Evan and Melissa since the beginning of the show. Yes, the top ten are all brilliant and have great futures in dance. But the top ten tend to be either modern “lyrical” dancers or “boys from the ‘hood”. I am rather tired of that, so I chose those two with really unique talents to support this time, and obviously I’m not alone.
Every week, SOMEONE is eliminated, leaving talent behind to continue entertaining the masses. I’m sure one or more of my favorites will go eventually. But I appreciate the efforts of EVERY DANCER that makes Vegas, and even those who don’t get that far.
It’s been said over and over again that this is a popularity contest, but how can one-trick Evan be more popular than Jeanette or Jason?
I’m assuming what they mean is popularity amongst the producers… they’ve coddled Evan along this entire season – seems they DO have a word in who stays and goes at this point.
They cast is full of contemporary dancers, so they got rid of the one who wouldn’t get as many votes as Brandon on the finale… they probably can’t rig those results.
Also, a message for Walker Tatum: after voting that many times, either your “redial” button on your phone must be worn off, or your thumb must hurt from pushing it!
Give it a rest and just vote once like the rest of us.
I think America got this one wrong. I watch because I want to see the best dancer dance. They are all good, but I think Evan had last his run. I could understand the reason why they kept Melissa because of their last dance. That story really touchs and moved everyone. I am upset about Jannette, she was very good. She always pushes herself. I am sad.
I agree with all the others on the 100th eposide, they should have kept everyone and did a double elimination on the following week.
Again I am sad, but wishes Janette and Jason the best.
Wow, Janette is amazing! America got it wrong. This season ends for me too.
I’m thinking that wth Mia Michaels saying that Janette was her favorite, that may have influenced America to vote her off. I get the impression that American does not like Mia’s comments whether they are accurate or not.
Janette was the best.
My season is over!
As much as I like Evan and think he is very talented, he should have gone home last night, not Jason.
Love, love, love the show! The choreographers and dancers are amazing. I feel all the judges give constuctive criticism with the intent to better, not tear down.
I appreciated what Nigel Lythgoe said in the L.A. Times, “we should be in the background…focus should be on the kids.” Every season there have been memorable dance routines and I would have rather seen any of the “kids” routines rather than the Katie Holmes number. I was so disappointed and saddened, Katie needs to remain in the “background” and let the real stars perform.
Congratulations on your 100th episode of true excellence. I would love to have “The Best of SYTYCD” in DVD to continue enjoying what these talented choreographers have given these young dancers to perform.
Done watching…Janette should NOT be at home.
I hate these shows where the audience votes out contestants. You see so many talented people leave before their time. Janette is a fantastic dancer and what a great personality. She was such a joy to watch. I’m sure she will be very successful (and deservedly so) but I’m not sure the remaining dancers are enough for me to watch the rest of the show this season.
#1 Point:
I am so disappointed in this program for allowing Katie Holmes to ‘dance’ on the show last night, umm that wasn’t dancing. The producers of this show allowed her name to overcome the fact that she “clearly” did not sing live and all she did was pose, kick, flick her hair and prance around, and I’m sure promoted whatever shade of lipstick that was.
She almost mocked the individuals whom she is trying to raise money for by being an amateur on National Television on a show that is known for producing the BEST. I appreciate that she is trying to raise money for the arts, but had that been anybody else during auditions, Mary, Nigel & Mia wouldn’t have even sent her to Vegas. It should have been called a guest “appearance” b/c that was not dancing.
#2
I can’t believe America voted off Jeanette!!!!!! What is wrong with the world. First it takes way too long to get Mr. ‘List’ Kipono off, and then you go and vote off the best????? Come on!
janette was and is awesome. I still cannot believe that America voted her off the show. From day one she has been the favorite to take first place. Shame on anyone who votes over 1000 times. I really feel there must be some way to curb this behavior. I tried about 5 times last night to vote for Janette but only got either busy signals or no circuits signalsand had to keep redialing. To vote for Melissa the call went right through. Maaybe the phone companies decide who would get votes and who wouldn’t. Love you Janette. Good luck with your dance future!
I don’t think results were fair. I live in Birmingham, AL and our FOX station interrupted the first half of the show. For about 30 – 40 min the news was broadcasting the President’s Speech. We did not get a chance to see the first 4 dancers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The name of this show should change to “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN BE POPULAR” It is amazing that Jannette went home. I can not believe Evan is still there!!! Melissa and Evan should have been eliminated. It is very unfair. The rules of the show should change. I will not watch the show anymore.
To remind everyone now that it’s to the top 6 it’s not necessarily all about the dancing… it’s also about personality and appeal to the audience. I agree that Janette was a great dancer and she probably went home to soon… but they are all so great and someone has to go home.
Last nights show only reminded me more of American’s inability to grasp what makes a truly great dancer. Jannette’s going home is a shame and will cause the show’s season to not be as great. Understanding that the top four girls were all amazing I believe Jannette was by the best dancer on the show. She was talented and incredibly versatile.
What really was the icing on the cake for last night’s show was the fact that Evan was not even in the bottom. I believe that Evan is strong dancer who has hit hit peak. He is unable to keep up with the talent of the other dancers & it is sad that dancers with such potential have been sent home instead.
I do not believe that America is a fair judge of the show. Unlike other shows that allow American to judge, SYTYCD is different. People who have no background in dance and who do not at all understand any technical aspect of dance are judging meaning events like last night’s episode will continue to happen. My vote is to always let the judges have the final say!
Janette was amazing! And I cannot even believe her or Brandon were in the bottom.
I’m sooooo sad that Janette left! I cant believe it! Its so unreal. I thought she would win this competition. And another thing I don’t understand is how Evan is still in the competition! I mean, personally,I think that Jason is a better dancer than him. He wasn’t my favorite in the guys. Im so sad and I don’t really feel like watching the next episodes of So you think you can dance anymore. Its so empty without Janette and Jason. America didn’t chose well. I’m disappointed.
Without a DOUBT Janette was the BEST Dancer and SHOULD be the winner this year. Her leaving proves that this show is not about who is the BEST dancer but who manages to have the most popularity. That breast cancer piece, although I thought it was amazing, should NOT have been given to a couple, it was completely UNFAIR, people didn’t vote for Melissa and Ade, they voted for the dance! Had Melissa and Ade really been the better dancers they would not have been in the bottom four the week before that. Janette was obviously robbed of her position in the show and at this point I honestly do not care about who wins because the one person who SHOULD win won’t. I highly doubt I will finish watching this season unless through some miracle Janette is brought back.
I THINK WE SHOULD BE BASING OUR VOTES FOR FAVORITE DANCER ON THE SOLOS PREFORMED THAT NIGHT. HOW BRANDON AND KAYLA COULD BE IN THE BOTTOM TWO IS CRAZY. THEY DANCED FANTASTIC SOLOS.
BOOOO!! Can I even continue watching now? I agree and think the judges should still be able to pick from the bottom two. Jeanette is a rock star of a dancer. Melissa is good, but really just got lucky with that emotional piece. If she didn’t have that, she would’ve gone home.
Oh, Jeanette, I wish you were still on. Boycotting the show doesn’t sound like a bad idea. I’m so disappointed.
Evan, you’re a doll, but it is TIME TO GO. Sorry, buddy.
If your not going to post my comments then have the dencency to at least tell me why you’re not posting my comments.
Don’t just not post them??? I didn’t say anything bad and did not break the terms of agreement.
Jeanette should had won the season, she was def. the best of the season and i dont know if ill be tuning in anymore, for what if the best person got voted off.
I was in total shock last night. Eliminating Janette was the biggest mistake. I had her picked as the winner for this season. She was fabulous with every dance she did. She was on the Hot Tamale train all season, got standing ovations, loved by Mia, what else do people want?? I was so mad last night, I vowed to skip the rest of the season. However, I’ll keep watching, because I want to see if Evan ends up winning because America feels bad for him. Oh brother. DISAPPOINTING!!
Judges need to get involved and the process needs to change. The bottom two in both categories was completely wrong. Janette should have won the WHOLE contest. I love all the dancers but clearly, this was a huge mistake that will ultimately impact the last few segments. What a shame. Lovely ballerina – but no personalty – should have gone home. She’s still there thanks to Tyce’s amazing choreography.
Love the show – but biggest disappointment in the history of the show.
What a shame! Jeanette is the best dancer on the show. She is certainly my Favorite Dancer. Clearly, these results don’t reflect what is obvious.
Jason and Janette were by far two of the strongest dancers on the show. I am so sad to see these two eliminated. I was hoping to see them in the final 4. What a mistake America.
Janette is one of the best dancers on the show her ability to do all dances is amazing! I was touched by Tyce dance for breast cancer but to have it sway people to vote for Ade and Melissa was not fair they are good dancers but they are not good all around dancers. I have watched SYTYCD since it started this is the first time I have been so put off that I don’t want to watch but I admire Brandon so if he is voted out I’m done.
Jeanette was boring. And NO, it’s not about the best dancer, it’s America’s favorite dancer, and she, apparently is not it.
I can’t believe that Janette and Jason went home! I seriously thought she was going to win. Perhaps the only thing that saved Melissa from getting eliminated was the touching theme of the Tyce’s choreography.
I am truly disappointed at last nights results. Jeannette is a great dancer and I looked forward to her performance every week. No matter what style or genre was thrown at her she was always awesome. I do believe that Melissa is being given “special treatment” as someone has already posted. We never saw her pushed out of her comfort zone. The producers really didn’t seem ready to let their token ballet dancer go home. If any of the other girls had performed the breast cancer routine, everyone would have still been touched and Melissa would have gone home. I also believe at this point of the competition is should be up to the judges opinion only, and not a popularity contest. I am done watching this season!
Its about being America’s FAVOURITE dancer, which doesn’t necessarily mean the most talented. Janette leaving was a shocker, but I’m sure she’ll have a great career in the dance world.
Now, what about that over-hyped piece of crap that was Katie Holmes “singing” and “dancing”…. DREADFUL!!!
Janette wasn’t that good. And if she was so popular then why is she home. She was a great salsa dancer and very flexible but that’s about it. All of you should have been spending more time on the phones dialing in instead of sitting in front of the computer blogging.
Holla!
I will never watch this show again (well i might but im not happy) janette was my fav… what are you americans doing????
I just dont get it, there are a few people in this show who deserve to be voted off more the Janette and jason
c’mon now
I started watching sytycd last season and I have a question. Have the previous winners all been men, or have some winners been women?
As a breast cancer survivor, and a year later a kidney cancer survivor, then 2 years later skin cancer survivor, let me tell you “the Producers of SYTYCD,” I cringed at the overtly “Emmy” nomination hopeful of the “rag on the head” dance exploiting breast cancer. AS far as I could tell none of the dancers, nor the judges had ever had breast cancer, but all got their tears and baloney broadcast. That is why Melissa and Ade were not voted off and the coregrapher pandered to Melissa’s inability to dance other than ballet. Where is Melissa’s hip hop routines or jive, etc. While I like her, she’s a one-trick pony when it comes to versatility. Janette is not my favorite; however, she is a better dancer than Melissa. Evan should have been voted off last night. Lay off the “cause of the moment” and let’s dance!!
Well what a crock of you know what!!. Janette should NEVER have been voted off and to be honest I dont think the other chick should have been in the bottom 2 either. I think Mia Michaels put the nail in the coffin for Janette by saying she was her favourite and so America probably didnt vote as they thought she would be safe. I think Melissa and Ade only scraped it with the last dance they did as it is a topic close to everyone’s heart and Evan got sympathy votes after the comments about his face.
Hats off to Katie Holmes for supporting the dizzy feet foundation but OMG that was a VERY BAD performance like Ellen said she could have done that and done it 100 times better.
I feel that the show has a huge problem. Even American Idol’s (which I DO NOT watch) judges have the ability to save one person. Jeanette was my winner, Mia’s winner, Nigel’s winner, etc…therefore, something is very, very wrong. I really hope someone reads this! I think one of two things happened. Either people assumed Jeanette would get tons of votes cause she is THE BEST dancer on the show and decided to try and save someone else for another week. OR People really just don’t have a clue what their looking at and vote based on choreography instead of dancing. Regardless, Jeanette was robbed and one can only hope that either Brandon or Jeanine are still there to take it to the finale!
I should have voted multiple times for Janette & Jason, they should be in the top 2 ….
I AGREE WITH VICTORIA 100% – Let the judges have the final say!!! America isn’t educated enough in all the facets of dance to be a decent judge. This is obvious after what happened last night.
I am incredibly disappointed in the results!!! By far, Janette brought more personality, skill, energy, and creativity to the stage than any of the other girls on the program this season. To see her go really hurts. Jason is also a superstar who brings so much more than technique to his dancing. Evan has a unique style, but when given the opportunity to dance in his own style, he underperformed and didn’t live up to the expectations. Kayla is drop dead gorgeous and has beautiful legs and lines, but she lacks personality in her dance. She doesn’t make an emotional impact on the audience. I believe they should have been the two dancers to go this week. I really thought I would see Brandon and Janette as the top two dancers in the finale. What a wonderful, exciting episode that would be! Shame on you America!
Janette was robbed! The consistent attention to detail in her dancing, no matter the style, was wonderful to watch — I was looking forward to seeing what she would bring to the remaining shows. Considering her lack of formal training, I think has the most raw talent of the bunch… Combine that with her all-business work ethic, great attitude and capacity for artistic growth she definitely should have been the winner!
Maybe the show should be called “So You Think You’re Qualified to Judge Dance?”
NOTE TO NIGEL:
The problems isn’t with America not getting it right, the problem is with the producers of the show not getting it right. To allow a single couple to “dance for breast cancer” was unfair to the rest of the contestants. And I would go so far as to say that it cost Janette the competition. Certainly whomever got to dance this one was guaranteed safety. I think next time dancing for a cause should be offerred to the group.
I do not understand why Janette and Jason were eliminated – these top dancers make the choices difficult but the judging/voting system needs to change – the judges, qualified as they are, need to have MORE weight. It’s too much of a popularity contest that weighs heavily on how many phone calls are made to vote for someone. The only recognition of training, technique and performance is from the judges. If you have followed this show this season you will see that these two have excelled in just about everything. Brandon in the bottom???? What???
Seriously America screwed this one up big time. The producers have to be kicking themselves for handing out a free pass into the next round to Melissa and Ade, I mean come on, who in their right mind can watch that sad dance and not call in and vote for the dancers in it. Not voting for the dance here, its not America’s Favorite DANCE ROUTINE, its America’s favorite DANCER. Of course if janette and jason had gotten Ade and Melissa’s 2 dances they would have nailed them big time.
Done watching this season… Maybe the Judges should have more say until it comes down to the final 4. At least then you know its not a complete popularity contest.
PS. i know evan’s face is different and all, but come on, he’s no where near the dancer jason was.
I am so sorry. The elimination of Janette was so unexpected and out of contest that left my daugther and me speechless. She didnt even deserve to be in the bottom. It ruined a very good season and as Nygel said the celebration of the 100’s episode. The best dancer is not going to win, she was eliminated; and, yes they should restrict the calls per household not to 1 but to 3 or 4 calls because of household size.
Way to go Janette!!!!!!!! You are in our heart the winner and I know for sure this is not last we are going hear from you.
I love this show more than American Idol.
However,
My comment is more about the lighting this year. Toooo bright. You can’t see half the time. And then they do a routine where they are all in white. They are blowing everything out with those lights. Last year’s lighting was so much better. It is bad enough they swirl the camera’s around so we don’t get the good angle during great tricks. Just keep the camera on from the judge’s point of view. Keep it simple.
If we go see them live, we will not get 20 different camera angles from our seat so why should I get it like that at home. This is my second year watching this show and if this fall does not fix the lighting and camera issues it may by my last.
I was shocked when I saw Kayla & Janette in the bottom two after America voted. Both of these dancers are excellent.
Janette was clearly the most talented and versatile of all of the dancers, and I really expected her to win the top prize.
She got eliminated, unfortunately, for all of the wrong reasons:
The routines that were choreographed for her were not as “flashy” or deep as the ones other dancers got.
The incredible routine that Ade and Melissa got to perform so splendidly was a show-stopper, and kept both of them in the running even though neither is as versatile as Janette.
There are apparently a large number of very selfish voters who violate the democratic principle of one person one vote and have decided that their opinions should count much more than others. This makes a mockery of the entire voting process.
I agree with Nigel and Mia that Janette was the best dancer on the show and that “America got it wrong”
What a shame!
AMERICA GOT IT ALL WRONG!!! Janette should not have gone…AND, Jason should not have gone!!! American Idol added the “judges save”; SYTYCD needs to come up with something too…it shouldn’t be based on popularity!
As someone from Miami and going to the same high school as Janette did, I can’t believe the results from last night. I have seen the show since season one and have never been so disappointed to see someone go home. Janette did Miami proud and was always great in all of her performances and Evan should definitely not have been safe. Jason’s technique and performances rocks his any day, I believe that the comments from Mia pulled a lot of voters because of him being different, but his dancing was just not up to par to the other males. I really don’t even think I’ll keep watching after what happened to Janette.
This was the biggest disappointment ever! Katie was horrible! If she can really sing/dance, she sure didn’t show it last night. The show was slow. I wanted to see more about the past dancers. Where are they now? It should have been a two hour show filled with favorite past dances. Come on Nigel! As a producer, you blew this one! Good thing for you I like this show enough to stick around because if it was just based on last night, I’d be gone. You really cheated the loyal fans. Get it right, Nigel!!
I am very disappointed that Janette was eliminated last night.
She was clearly the best and most versatile dancer of the group. Perhaps in a case where two of the judges are saying “America got it wrong” they should have some sort of veto power. As it is now – I think that the winner will be the one who has the most people re-dialing and voting numerous times. The rules should be changed!
Producers: Bring Janette back!!! She is much more exciting to watch than Melissa.
JEANETTE WAS MEANT TO WIN THIS YEAR! The final two girls should be Jeanette & Kayla. It really doesn’t matter who the final two guys are, because one of these two women should be the winner BY FAR! I think Kayla is fabulous and a gorgeous girl — so ultimately feminine — but Jeanette shines as a really versatile dancer with a wonderful personality. That’s what this show is supposed to be about. I have watched every year and have always agreed with the final winner, but this year it’s just wrong! I think the judges need to be more honest — Melissa’s cha cha was HORRIBLE — and they didn’t have the guts to say that to her. I hope she gets voted off this week. I also thought the 100th episode was a bomb. I’m tired of seeing the same dances repeated on the show. Let the past winners come back and do a new number! They’re so good — let them dance for us! We’ve already seen the old stuff over and over — DANCE SOMETHING NEW!
Instead of letting ignorant people vote off the best dancers why don’t the producers change the way the voting is done. The experienced judges should do the selecting of the 4 worst dancers, then America picks which 2 go home.
The judges pick the winner out of whoever is left after the not so good dancers have been weeded out. That way America gets to participate, but they don’t get to turn it into a popularity contest, or to vote for the ‘cutest’ or hottest person they happen to like.
I missed last night’s show, and I can’t believe that Janette and Jason were eliminated..America definitely didn’t make the right choice.
I don’t even want to watch the show anymore, with them gone.
:’(
I am so disappointed that Janette had to leave, but I wasn’t very surprised, because I am starting to find that it’s so much more about exposure and popularity than the actual dance ability and growth. Janette was OBVIOUSLY a versatile dancer with maybe not the best all around techniques, but still very strong ones. In addtion, her personality outstands any dancer on that stage! She’s happy, positive, energetic, and very classy if you saw how she was when she found out about the results. I also don’t understand why Melissa is still there. Yes, she is amazing at what she does, but that’s it! She does NOT look good doing other style, maybe alrigh in lyrical, but when she did ballroom, both times, she made me want to leave the TV for a bit because of how awkward she looked. She was only saved because of the great routine by Tyce, NOTHING more. Her solos ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! If classical ballet is what you do best, then don’t try to be funky! She just jumped all over the stage as if she was doing warmups across the floor! As for Jason, I am SO GLAD he is gone!!! He’s lanky, wimpy, mediocre dancer who does not shine at all. I bet if he wasn’t already somewhat exposed in Vegas in Season 4, he would not have made this far. He doesn’t deserve to be in the top 10, let alone top 8. This season’s dancers so far are not at all comparable to last year’s top 20. I think it is a total waste of many awesome routines. Yes they danced it, but they hardly brought out the flavor and emotions that those choreographies were meant to have. Last season, Katee, Josh, Mark, Chelsea, Courtney, and many more, they ALL brought so much more to the show, this season, it’s been a total let down thus far.
I was so sad last night. I could not believe what happened. I understand the breast cancer routine was VERY emotional and I wonder is that why they managed to stay out of the bottom 2 this time? Why those two or even Evan – all of whom are talented dancer BUT clearly not the best on the show got to stay and Janette had to go… Man that is just so sad – Janette you rock girl stay your amazing self and great things will continue to happen for you!
katie holmes……. she DID sing…..she DID NOT DANCE…. SHE PRANCED around the stage and NEVER did she do any type dance move!!!!!!!!!! and everyone just oooood and aaahhhh’d over her… give me a break….
Having Katie Holmes on the show yesterday was an insult for Judy Garland. Holmes dancing? What a joke! Singing? Would you ever consider her for American Idol? She donated her fee? She should have paid you to be on a show of the class and caliber of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Very disappointing!
The dance from Melissa and Ade about cancer was fearsome, and awe-some. Even my husband, who doesn’t know the two step from the tango was blown away. The really great thing about it was that you were never guessing what the dancers were trying to tell you. It was shouted through the dance. You could almost hear the words. The absolute best performance on this show EVER!!!
Janette and Jason should NOT have gotten eliminated. I thought Janette was going to win the competition! I can’t believe Evan is still in the show! Now that Janette’s not in the competition, I think Brandon or Ade might win…
Janette is amazing. I thought she was going to be the winner. My theory is that she lacked votes because of her good status and raving reviews and people assumed that she would not be at risk. She went above and beyond. She was so well received on the show and on television that I hope this is a major jump start and opens doors for her career. Also, I’m disappointed that she never got to show off her true style because I would have loved to have seen her salsa.
i love you janette, i can´t belive you are out. this is the wort show ever. i’m never watching this again. they should bring her back, because without her there is no show.
Umm…so who is voting for Evan? Im confused. He should have been kicked off three episodes ago. Am I really supposed to believe that Evan is a better dancer than Jason???? Did people feel bad because the judges were talking about his brow line? Might I remind America that this is a DANCE competition. I don’t know if I even want to watch anymore because it’s kinda ruined now…
Well producers, you have been judged! One voter admitted to voting 1,136 times by automated phone dialing . What ever happened to one person, one vote. If the system is not corrected, the next one voted out will be your show! Off the network! There is not one comment that even remotely agreed with the outcome Thursday.
The results were a joke. Also the hip-hop routines are terrible this year (except for the Kayla/Jason one),and it appears that the producers have intentionally gone out of their way to find choreographers that are nowhere near as competent as Mia, Tye, Sonya, Tony,Travis and Wade ( there are a few, very few, other good ones). If they can’t cut it, why aren’t they criticized. They destroy the quality of the show.
Having Jeanette and Kaya in the bottom two is a travesty. Having Jeanette cut, at this time, is an astoundingly poor outcome.
I’m sorry, but like the others, I have to stop watching. However, you should know that surprisingly, I spoke to approximately 20 others who are also doing the same. I can’t compete with a 1,136 vote automatic phone dialer.
Debbie Allen said that the show was more than a competition; it was a “conversation” among the dance community. Well Thursday’s outcome brought about a deafening silence, and in my opinion, there is little more to talk about.
Last night’s show – HUGE disappointment!!!! While I am a big supporter of breast cancer research, that routine should not have been one to be judged – way too many sympathy votes came in b/c of it – completely unfair to rest. Jason and Janette were 2 of the best dancers I’ve seen, and have been watching since beginning. I am done with the show now – will not watch again this season. I don’t care now. Those 2 should not have gone home. If either had gotten Tyce’s routine they would have stayed – it wasn’t fair.
And Katie Holmes?? Didn’t sing OR dance – what was the point? RIDICULOUS
oh, and message for Walker Tatum – it’s because of people like you that 2 of the best dancers went home!! That’s what happened last night – it was too emotional of a topic to be judged for the dance. I agree with Emily – it should have been a Thursday routine.
And Erica H – you were right on about Katie Holmes!!
I am so sad that Janette was eliminated last night. She is a great dancer! Week after week she did an excellent job with the routines she was given. She is the female version of Twitch, a tremendous entertainer. The rest of the dancers may be great in their own style, but when they were put to the test to do other styles most of the time they did not deliver. Unlike Janette she deliver every week. You’re going to be miss Janette. I’ve watch all four seasons, and was so looking forward to this year, and now I’m so disappointed. The celebration of 100th show turn sour for everyone! I can only hope that at least Brian gets to win this year, even though it was time for a girl to win. With Janette gone, no way!!!!!!
I actually almost cried when they sent Jeanette home!! I agree with all the previous posts, she should have won the whole thing!! I felt Jason was weak and tired, so goodbye. Evan will probably go next week, even though I llllloooooooooooovvvvvvvvvveeeee him! Melissa is boring me, as well as Kayla. Oh well, just as any voting situation, if you don’t vote you have to live with it! Still going to one of the tour shows!!
America, this is a dance competition. Evan may be cute, but he cannot be compared with Brandon…. and Janette? please, she IS the best female dancer. The other girls are good, but she is the BEST. The tango she and and Brandon danced was PERFECTION, like everything else. I agree the judges should have a say, because at the end of the day it ends up being a popularity contest and not a dance contest. Fuerza Janette!
Katie Holmes’ performance? In a word.. ouch. The singing and dancing were truly bad. I had heard she was on Broadway for a bit and was looking forward to seeing what she could do but, apparently, she can’t do much. She sings with a strange accent and her dancing was more walking and stomping than anything. If the show wouldn’t have built up the number so much, maybe it would have seemed quite so bad.
I guess one bright note from the Katie Holmes segment is that she has shown us all her level of talent which we can now avoid at all costs.
Janette is way by far the BEST DANCER this season. Jason was right behind her. What is going on????? I could think of 2 others that should of went home. Now i have to find some other program to watch. IT’s FIXED.
I definitely do not think that this past elimination was correct. Neither Jason nor Janette should have been taken off the show. That just goes to show that America as a whole is not an expert at dancing, but rather just voting for who they like as a person. The breastcancer piece was what I believe was the most TOUCHING dance on the show (and I truly mean it. I think it was evident by all the tears); however, I do believe that it saved Melissa and Ade. Neither Jason nor Brandon should have been in the bottom two. Jason was my favorite guy with Brandon being a close second. Evan is adorable and all, but he just is missing something. Maybe it is something that he can’t help because of his natural physique, but it’s missing. Ade is good, but I’m not “wowed” every time he hits the stage. By far, my favorite girl is Jeanine. She is a powerhouse. Soulful. Passionate. Real. Every move she makes has intension behind it. She blows me away every dance. every shift. every action. I think that they are all so good at this point that it doesn’t really matter who gets knocked off. We’d all love to see our favorites win; however, granted, they are all absolutely phenomenal.
I am sooo upset that Janette was eliminated last night!!!! this was the worst eliminiation in SYTYCD history!!! I have lost my faith in the voters of the show clearly they are not looking at actual talent when it comes to voting for the dancers. Janette has been the best female performer of all seasons so far and she deserved to win the show!!! I can not believe she will no longer be on the show. I do not even look forward to watching the show anymore because she is not on it! SYTYCD needs to step it up from now on because they just lost their best dancer!!!
AMERICA GOT IT WRONG. PERIOD. Jeannette was the best female dancer of the bunch. Jason was soooo much better then Evan. What is wrong with American voters. If they continue to vote like this, then the final decision should be with the JUDGES.
I too am sooo disappointed about Janette leaving the show. She is the only ballroom dancer left, has been perfection in every style given to her and never disappointed. Some of this year’s best moments involved her. That Tango! So many others. Her departure ruins this season for me.
And on another topic– the judges should not remark on poor costumes or problems in the choreography while judging the dancing! The dancers have no control over costume or choreography and too often it sounds like criticism of dancers when other elements are the subject.
The show is no longer worth watching now that two of its best dancers Janette and Jason are gone. Brandon coming in bottom two was another joke.
I was so disappointed to see Janette voted off last night. Nigel got it right when he said the 100th show was ruined for him. It was for me, too.
Like others who’ve commented, I agree that giving a dance with such an emotional impact at this stage of the game is like giving them a “home free” card. There was no way Melissa or Ade were going to be in the bottom 4 dancers with everyone in tears, not because of the dancers or the dance, but because of the “reason” for the dance.
The breast cancer piece certainly needs to be danced. It was very well choreographed. And I also agree with an earlier poster that something with that much emotional impact should be danced either on elimination night or as a group dance, not as part of the competition. Unfortunate choice on the part of the producers.
Yes, it was a beautiful piece. But at the same time, Melissa got handed another dance number that was too close to her genre. She really hasn’t been challenged as much as the other dancers.
Janette, Brandon, Kayla, and Jeanine have all been challenged and shown their ability to give it their all successfully.
I will probably still watch the rest of the season, but the spark has gone out of it for me with Janette gone. Much too soon.
As for the person voting 1,136 times for Melissa, you said it yourself that you voted for the cause and not the dancer. You are one of the reasons the voting system needs to be revamped.
If this kind of situation happens in future seasons, that will be the end for me. No more SYTYCD.
The reason Janette went home: BAD HAIR!
OMG, every week she was such a fabulous dancer, fun to watch, great personality, but that horrible horrible hair. YUCK! Looked great during the performances, but ever rehearsal with it in a flat, bowl cut like that. Made me want to run for the scissors. You just can’t vote for hair like that.
And to pp, Melissa is fabulous. Talented, graceful, interesting, and a great sport.
None of the guys this season hold a candle to the top five last season: Twitch, Will, Joshua, Mark and Gev… all superior to this year’s roster.
Are you freakin KIDDING?!?!?!?!?!?
Of all people, JANETTE?
That is ridiculous……..Just because the judges liked her doesn’t mean you don’t have to vote.
I think she deserves a re vote.
I worked so hard to make my vote, reviewed the tape and felt so bad that someone had to go home. I felt that Janette was the best of Woman in this episode and demonstrated her talent and skill in all types of dance. I grimaced when Mia stated Janette was her favorite!
Can it be when voters think that a Dancer will get most the votes (Mia’sBest), they than vote to keep someone out of the bottom two thinking that there best will still be in the show, when in fact they helped vote out there best. It appears to have happened in past seasons.
What can be done? I usually vote for best Male and Female does this hurt the total values? Is this what the Producers want? Does having a bottom two or three male and female should it not than be vote for best female and male dancer only? It seems this would be less likely to affect the result.
I think this season has he best group of dancers ever. The pain of choosing the best. So sad, the voting is so flawed. The Best so far, had to go home.
Janette is gone? That is total BS. She should have, at the very least, been in the finale. IMHO, she should have won the entire competition. She’s a great dancer and has a sweet personality. I am so done with this season of SYTYCD.
Janette is gone? That is just wrong. She should have, at the very least, been in the finale. IMHO, she should have won the entire competition. She’s a great dancer and has a sweet personality. I am so done with this season of SYTYCD.
I was so totally upset last night with Jason being voted off.. I voted like crazy for him..
But the good news the tour will be here soon.. I will all we be able to see our favorite dancers.. I got my tickets today.. And i will be screaming like crazy for Jason..
I agree with Sean completely. The Breast Cancer tribute should have been a group dance. As a dancer I understand the importance of having a story to back up your choreography but this definitely biased the votes towards two dancers in particular and although they were great dancers they were NOT the best. Janette was by far the best dancer. My interest in the show has decreased substantially since this vote off. It is becoming like American Idol where it is a popularity contest depending on the week, rather then the best dance contest.
I love to watch this show. While I have personal favorite dancers, I have an immense amount of respect and admiration for every one of the dancers that are able to perform at the level that these young dancers show weekly. I actually tend not to vote on these shows. Every single one of those dancers deserve to be where they are at.
No matter how great a dancer may be on this show, there are multiple times that some one who may be considered to be “less talented” (although how I could ever make a judgment like that as I could not do anything that most of them are able to do!!!) have been voted off, possibly because of the partnerships that they are put into in the beginning stages of the show. There is nothing that can ever guarantee that a dancer is “safe” on this show.
To put down dancers, or to make the comment that “if they can live with the way they got through”, seems completely unfair. They danced the dance that they were given, and if they had not been able to pull the dance off with the emotional performance that they were able to give, there is no way that they would have just stayed on the show based purely on the inspiration of the piece. As good as any of the other dancers are, I don’t know if that dance could have been pulled off by any of the other couples.
To say that the producers have let some of the dancers “coast” through…How many times have the other dancers, who don’t have dance form that is not typically showcased on the show, gotten to dance their own styles??? I have nothing but respect for the producers who decided to take advantage of the fact that they had a pointe-trained ballerina to expose youth in America to ballet. Ballet is not a dance form that many young people are exposed to, and it was not Ade’s style of dance and he performed it admirably.
I guess the thing that makes me the most sad is that this show is about promoting dance, not specific dancers. This show helps to expose every day working people like me to cultural and artistic forms that I may not be able to see otherwise. To choose not to watch this show because you feel that the wrong person was voted off is sad. America voted. I agreed with an earlier statement, that the purpose of these final weeks is to find America’s favorite dancer–not the best or most talented. This show is not purely about technicality, dance is about the emotions that the performance evokes. Would people continue to complain if their “favorite” dancer had the routine that had brought tears to the judges’ eyes?
This is the first year I’ve actually voted because I felt that strongly about Janette. I really don’t understand what happened. Does Evan have a million relatives that keep re-dialing? Seriously! It was horrible to watch her go and shouldn’t have happened. I really wish the judges would keep the right to be the final vote to avoid these situations. That vote was just straight up wrong.
Janette!!! You were my top little lovely. I wanted kayla, janette, brandon, and ade in the final. Hello? What show is america watching seriously. I really liked evan but I’m starting to dislike him because he is staying when he doesn’t deserve to. He needs to go! And kayla and janette in the bottom two!!!!! And brandon!!!!! What are you all thinking!!!!!! Crazy people. They all slay anything and everything they are given. Every style. I’m pretty sure brandon can do broadway better than evan. Can evan do brandons style better? No. It’s just the truth, maybe the truth hurts but it’s how the votes should go. To americas BEST dancer. But I suppose it’s americas favorite dancer and maybe they aren’t always the best. Who knows, but all I have to say is judges I want you back! If there’s another week next week like last night, then I can’t bear to watch the finale. Can you tell I’m upset?
There is something very, very wrong with someone being able to vote 1136 times for one dancer. Janette was like a comet streaking across the heavens. Soooooo spectacular was she. Head and shoulders above the other women.
Nigel, if this travesty happens again in season 6, you will lose 1/2 of your viewing public. Something must change and change fast.
You now have the best female dancer sitting at home. If people can vote multiple times by figuring out how to screw the system, then the results you report each week are a fraud!
Brandon is the best male dancer, no doubt about it. Mary is right.
Last season I felt that there should be two awards, the best man and the best woman. It was unfair to have Katee matched against two great male dancers.
DO SOMETHING TO SAVE YOUR SHOW! ANNOUNCE IT ON WEDNESDAY OR YOUR SHOW WILL BE MISSING EVERY VIEWER WHO LOVED JANETTE. And, that would indeed be a pity.
French is my first language . I have been living a short time in Toronto , so I am sorry for my English I was very sad last night. How can be possible that the only dancer who never was criticized, never was in danger, never made one mistake, never lost her “tempo”, the “one” according to Mia, was eliminated. Still now I can’t believe it because people love her dance. Melissa, I agree that her LAST performance was touching but WAKE UP!!!!! is because we are talking about cancer. is enough? Brandon, incredible!!!!. Ade did his worst performance and Brando was in danger! It is because cancer AGAIN. What upset me? Until yesterday the judges always decided, Why was different yesterday? Yesterday this program lost their biggest fan. My family and I are disappointed. I will never watch it again. Janette believe me, talent always overcomes mediocrity. For sure you will have a great future as a dancer. Good luck.
Janette was what made the show worth watching for me. I can’t bear to watch anymore.
Last season Courtney was my personal favorite. I loved her. So I was thrilled that she made it into the final four. But I wouldn’t have thought it unfair if Chelsie had taken that spot. Arguably Chelsie was the better dancer. But it would have been a shocking travesty if Comfort had beaten both of them. Also, as much as I loved Courtney, it would have been a travesty if she had beaten out Katee. (I thought it was something of a travesty that Katee didn’t win. But at least the producers acknowledged her achievement by giving her $50,000 as the top woman.)
But what happened this week with Kayla and Janette in the bottom two and Janette being voted off was the travesty to end all travesties on this show.
I also agree with the general consensus that Evan should have gone ahead of Jason – and it was also something of a travesty that Brandon was in the bottom two.
But nothing compares with the outrage of Janette being voted off. She was the clear favorite to win the competition and certainly should have at least been in the final with Kayla.
This wasn’t an issue of “America voting” for its “favorite”. Apparently the speed dialers for Melissa and Jeanine (and Evan) distorted the vote. That doesn’t make them “America’s favorite”.
The producers of the show need to address this. A great injustice was done.
I was gobsmacked last night when Jason and Jeanette were tossed off. Seriously?! Melissa and Even, although I do love to watch both of them dance, were the weakest links. And Holy Crow! Voting over 1,000 times for one person? That needs to change. One phone, one e-mail address, or one household–one vote. That is not an accurate account of who would have gotten the most votes…only the person with the fastest fingers. I like the idea of America choosing, but the process needs some fine tuning.
I lost a brother-in-law to cancer 3 months ago and Melissa and Ade’s routine brought me to tears. And emotional as that was, I still thought that Melissa was the weakest link along with Evan. Cooler heads need to prevail.
Nigel, I hope you’re reading and taking notes. AMERICA IS SPEAKING LOUD AND CLEAR!
if all of you loved jeanette so much you should have picked up your phone’s and voted for her. this is obviously not due to a popularity contest when it’s clear that jeanette was one of the most popular dancers. she was never in the bottom 3 up until last night. people just forgot to vote for her. it could have something to do with mia proclaiming her the favorite, or the fact that both of her dances on wednesday failed to stand out. i honestly think the judges are to blame for evan still being in the competition. he’s getting the pity vote because nigyl insulted his physical appearance and then it continued to be brought up. it was embarrassing to watch. everyone that says they’re not going to watch the show isn’t a true fan. there are still amazing dancers. personally jeneane is my favorite. i think she’s far better than jeanette. stop being babies.
BKADAMS: I am the one who commented about Melissa and Ade being able to live with the way they got their votes on the elimination show and I stand by what I said. They are both good dancers I never say otherwise BUT they were only saved because of the dance that they danced. IT WAS ALL SYMPATHY VOTES plain and simple. For the last 3 weeks I believe they were both in the bottom, while Brandon and Janette had not been in the bottom at all and yet after that powerful piece they were miraculiously in the top??? If you can’t see what every other poster here sees then maybe you need glasses or maybe you are watching a different show than us.Neither one of those 2 should still be there and they both know it.They know their asses were saved because of the impact of such an emotional piece..Melissa dances ballet and thats about it..I’d like to see her and Ade pull off the routine that Jeanine and Brandon did(BATTLEFIELD) BUT guess what THEY CAN’T..and the producers know it so they just keep giving her the ballet crap to keep her in it..Neither one of them have been given any routine that can show us that they deserve to be there..Compared to the other dancers they just don’t reach their levels and its just not right..And to respond to something else you said….YES I would still feel this way had another couple received the cancer dance. The producers knew what an impact it was going to have on the viewers and they knew it was going to sway the voters..I have read just about every comment on here and I don’t believe anyone has said that Melissa and Ade don’t have talent,,they do BUT had it not been for the Cancer piece they would be gone and in their hearts of hearts both of them know it and as I said earlier they will live with winning the votes the way they did UNJUSTLY
If it were me on that show(not that I can dance lol) I would want to get votes because my dance ability deserves them and if I were going to win I would want to win for that reason also. And if it were me I’d also approach the producers and ask that the eliminated dancers be brought back because it would just be so obvious that it would be the right thing to do.
I loved, loved, loved Janette! She was wonderful and it should have been Janette and Kayla as the top two girls. I like the other two, but Melissa was saved due to the Breast Cancer number. It was simply beautiful, but that should not have been the reason Janette was booted. I am extremely disappointed and hope to see Janette next year on “Dancing With the Stars.” She has a marvelous personality and star quality.
Janette was my favorite, favorite!! Brandon and Janette should not have been in the bottom 4! I am definitely done watching the show, unless they bring Janette back. She was clearly the best girl on the show.
In defense of Melissa, Ade and their choreographer Tyce Dioreo: Tyce did his job. He gave the dancers he drew the very strongest routine he could create and they performed it well. Nobody’s fault that it saved that duo. Everyone was just doing their job to the best of their ability.
The real shame on the show this year is Evan’s huge fan base. Partnering with him has been the kiss of death for more than one girl. Meanwhile no girl has ever been voted off on the week that she partnered with Brandon. I still can’t believe that Janette is gone. She was my fav girl by far and I was hoping to see her dance with Brandon again. Speaking of Brandon, he’s never had the opportunity to dance his own style. I’m still waiting to see him draw contemporary, with choreographer Mia Michaels. After their history, that would be interesting.
Obama’s broadcast came on after only a couple of minutes of the start of the top six performance night and lasted for almost an hour! We missed about half of the show!! Please re-broadcast this episode or at least make it available online! I hated missing half of the dances, including the group dance at the beginning.
I’m so disappointed with this weeks results, Janette and Jason going while someone like Evan is still there? Shocking… Janette was by far the best on the show and Jason is way more versatile than Evan or Ade.
Goes to show though that the choreographer really can make or break you… Melissa and Ade were destined to be going home this week and Tyce saved them by throwing the voting public into a tizz… vote for their fav dancer or vote to show support a cause that needs light on it.
While I found Tyce’s routine to be very moving… and Melissa and Ade were for sure the best people to dance it – it was far from danced to the best of their ability, I fear they knew they’d win votes because of what it represented apposed to them putting their all into it.
On the other hand – Janette still manged to put in a top performance with 2 lame routines and the worst person to be partnered to on the on the show.
I do hope the SYTYCD team review voting, routines and partnering for the top ten on season 6 so this doesn’t happen again….
This week’s eliminations shocked us as they did many other bloggers in this forum. We are huge fans of Evan. He is so brilliant and unique in his dance style that we expect him to make it to Broadway one day. However, we are realistic about his inability to keep up with the expectations of the competition. It makes no sense that he was not included in the bottom two. As for the ladies, we were disgusted that Jeanette, who has been brilliant in every style and always garnered high praise from the judges, ended up going home. It is painfully apparent to us that the public should not be allowed to make these decisions. Nigel, Mary, and the others are judges for a reason. They possess the knowledge of the different dance styles and of what makes a good dancer. This show is about finding the best dancer, not the most popular dancer. In both the 99th and 100th shows, the judges made multiple comments about how much influence and exposure of dance this show has brought to the world, yet the finals are now turning into a mockery of that progress. The best dancers are being eliminated before they should, thus lowering the dancing standard, and taking from the integrity of the show. Clearly, the American public does not judge based on technique and performance. A popularity contest based on aspects not related to performance is becoming evident. Additionally, the procedure of casting votes needs to be regulated. One person being able to cast multiple votes unfairly stacks the odds against the other dancers, and it is not a realistic reflection of America opinion.
We have very little faith in the ability of the average American to intelligently choose the best dancer. We understand that a television show of this nature requires public involvement, but the current means of elimination during top 10 voting is flawed. Public opinion should be taken into consideration with polling results being made known during the show, however, the judges expertise should make the ultimate elimination decisions.
We have come to love dance much more than we ever thought possible due to the knowledge, advice, and explanation provided by Nigel, Mary and the other judges. Their passion and love of dance is inspiring and uplifting. We have the utmost respect for their opinions, and we trust their decisions most. We have read that many bloggers are considering an end to their viewing of this season because of this week’s result. We are not at that point, but if future results are as ridiculous as this week’s, we cannot guarantee that our love of the show will not be swayed as well. Currently, this is our favorite show and we hate the thought of it losing credibility.
OMG WTF! i can NOT believe that jeanette and jason were voted off. the two who both happen to be my favorite guy &&girl! this was my first season watching and look what they do to me! lol no but im BEYOND angry at who went home. never in a million years would i have thought that jeanette would go home this soon IF she were to even leave! jeanette was the strongest dancer without a doubt. and jason was amazing! and hot. lol but yes brandon was stronger when it came to it. but i loved jason! and i thought to see him go home AFTER evan. evan should have left along with the ballerina. her cha cha salsa whatever wasnt good. Now i guess its all up to kayla. i really have no faith left in this show though, honestly. not this season at least.
WHAT IS AMERICA THINKING!
That was so lame. I loved Janette, she was my favorite. This episode really shows that the judges should still be judging and choosing. It feels better to me as a viewer when the judges have a say. The quality of the show overall is so spectacular that to then leave it in the hands of this weird voting system just doesn’t add up. It feels like the season can only go downhill from here. I have been waiting week after week for Evan to go home. I even get the sense he would rather go home too because he knows he doesn’t still deserve to be there. He certainly seems like a nice guy and everything, but come on…what is going on? This is so disappointing. And Melissa is really a boring dancer, and it’s not because she’s a ballerina, she’s just…yawn.
this is some BS. seriously ive never been so upset at a result show. JASON & BRANDON in the bottom 2 ? WTF?!?!?!!?!?!. and EVAN is still there. are you serious. im not sure if i still want to watch this anymore. like seriously. wow im in sooo much shock !!!!!
Jason was my favorite and he shouldn’t have gone home, he was just starting to come into his own once in the top 10 and separated from Caitlin. Last week’s contemporary was AMAZING. He was the most consistent guy this week and the only one with two really good performances. And Janette, huge shocker…can’t believe it, I totally could’ve seen her winning. I CANNOT believe Melissa, Evan, Kayla are still in this competition and Jason and Janette are out. It’s ridiculous.
NOT WATCHING UNTIL THE FINALE so I can see Jason and Janette dance on that stage again.
Hate this show.
The judges REALLY should add a judges’ save to choose to save a dancer after the top 10 happens…this kind of travesty is not acceptable and RIDICULOUS.
Is this show tweaked or something? Didnt the judges say before that out of the bottom pple, that THEY ultimately decide by who they want to KEEP. From the start, Janette was praised REPEATEDLY and probably the MOST in all the contestants, THE most. Even the pple who might not like her the most will admit she was repeatedly praised by the judges every single routine.
The audience vote, I understand, some might have just never seen her prior performances. But the judges?? HELLO?? Have they gone senile or what???
missed the show but was shocked when i found out Janette was voted off the show, she was absolutely fantastic and did everything out of her genre to the best of the routines , look forward to seeing her when they come to Detroit, Jason outstanding as well… People are voting for the most popular and not the best dancers, that okay it should be stated as such… So you think you can Dance, I know Janette can,,, my goodness still in disbelief when i went to the website and saw her photo….
Ok people the show is not the search for America’s Best Dancer but for America’s FAVORITE Dancer. Clearly America favors the other six remaining dancers over Janette and Jason. My question is this, for all of you who are whining that your Favorite dancer was eliminated, did you even vote?
Very disappointed as well. The breast cancer dance skewed the result way too much. Evan and Melissa definetly should have been in the bottom 4 at the very least. Brandon and Jeanette in the bottom was absolutely CRAZY. Evan needed to go. Jeanette and Jason were robbed! I agree the judges should have some say so in the final decision especially when the choreography is so much a part of the show. The dancers are not responsible for weak choreography.
Remember what they say each episode, the winner is AMERICA’S FAVORITE DANCER, not necessarily the best dancer.
If you’re unhappy with the results then vote more
I was shocked that Janette went home. I thought she was the best girl and possibly deserved to win. I also was upset that Brandon, who I think is the best dancer on the show now that Janette is gone, was even in the bottom two. Evan has still never been in the bottom when both Ade and Brandon, who I think are better, have been. I agree that dances about emotional topics like breast cancer should either be done as exhibitions or group dances. People please vote for whoever you think is the best dancer, even if you think they’re safe, because clearly no one is safe. I think is unfair that Melissa has only had Ade and Brandon as partners because in my opinion they are the best guys. Also, the farthest she has had to stray from her comfort zone is disco, which she did not do nearly as well as Janette. Even if people vote based on personality Janette has been nice, cheerful, and gracious no matter who she was partnered with or what dance she got. To the people who are upset that Janette got eliminated, please keep watching and voting, because you are the people with common sense and if you stop voting Evan might win, even though some of the remaining dancers are far better. I don’t think people should vote for Evan based on sympathy, because it is unfair to some of the much more deserving dancers. I think final decision should go back to the judges because America proved that they can’t choose.
It was SO sad seeing Janette sent home! Why wasn’t she on “Mary’s train” more often…. SHE WAS A HOT TAMALE!!!!!
this season is going down hill!!! there is no 1 left worth the title of so u think u can dance. jeanette owns it! i mean come on who is left jeanine (love her to death)but im sure, cus she is good, she will leave next week. then melissa who can only stick to her style. and kayla is good but not the best n arent we looking for the best!??? im so disappointed on what america is voting for. as far as guys, w/o a doubt brandon is the best dancer but we all know he wont win cus we arent looking for the best. so why call this the best dance show? we already have to many fake shows on air, we do not need another 1. pls vote based on talent not on popularity. at least we will see them on tour where they can really show who is the best!
Well, as far as America voting, this is one more time they get it all wrong……why look at how this country is going!! Anyways, the best dancers are the ones that are being eliminated. The most versatile dancer of all was Jannette, and she is no longer there. This will make a lot of people stop watching this show, and think that somehow something “shady” happened here. I’m sorry, but when you see someone like Jannette leave, who has outdone herself in all the different styles she has been asked to perform, it makes you wonder if there is anything “not tampered with” anymore. As far as I and many other viewers are concerned, these shows are for one reason, and that is to give opportunities to those who have talents beyond the norm….that is Jannette. All the girls who danced are good, but are they really the best? I think that the voters screwed it up…..bring Jannette back!!
NYGEL SAID IT RIGHT, AMERICA GOT IT WRONG.. I CAN NOT NOT NOT
BELIEVE THAT JANETTE WAS SENT HOME..CLEARLY THE BEST DANCER ON THE SHOW THIS SEASON, AND OH YES IM SURE WE WILL BE SEEING MORE OF HER..IM STILL SHOCKED THAT HAPPENED, LOVE EVAN, BUT COME ON..
Let me clarify what I said about my voting: “I thought her breast cancer routine was great AND inspires anyone who experiences or has experienced breast cancer to battle it as much as possible, and never give up hope.”
That means, I voted for Melissa because I liked that performance for not only the cause, but it was entertaining and well-executed, and that she is a great ballerina as well. And I agree with Kim that this was too emotional of a topic to be judged (or should I say “jidged?”) in competition. There seemed to be too much focus on this one routine. If it was used on a results show, the results wouldn’t be so skewed, but I’m glad she stayed. Having a ballerina in the finale would be great.
The reason I vote so much is because, on this show, I care about the eliminations each week (many other people do too). And my votes were NOT power dialing, they were done with rapid-fire manual dialing. I used a handheld landline phone. But as for a voting limit, there’s probably a reason why the votes are unlimited. And therefore, the results do really seem to rest on how much the voters (not just me, but all the other voters, too) are willing to pick up the phone and vote, since two hours is a pretty long time.
But really, when the viewers get the final say when determining who is eliminated and it is this close to the finale, anything can happen in a two-hour voting period.
But I still wish Janette very good luck in the future, no matter what happens. For sure, her career will be successful. Maybe we might see her on another show very soon.
This is the first time I’ve disagreed with what has happened in the Top 10 during the 4 years I’ve watched SYTYCD. Unfortunately, to me, America got it wrong, they sent home two dancers who should have been in the Top 4. While I think all of the remaining dancers are outstanding in their own ways, America has created a lesser standard for the show. What bothers me the most, as mentioned in a previous post, is that any dancer who would have had Tyce’s routine would have been saved. The focus went away from the dancers and to the choreography. As great as the routine was, this is not what SYTYCD is all about. The producers really give this a rethink as they have sabotaged their own end product.
Janette eliminated? What are people smoking? It reminds me of Alison Holker being eliminated in Season 2 except this is worse. The top five women this season are all incredibly good but still… Honestly, I think the judges need to do a better job of recognizing the amazing performances of the best dancers and have better balance between that and criticisms of those who do not do as well. They said virtually nothing about Janette after her performance, which I think contributed to her beng eliminated.
My wife and I are loyal fans of “So You Think You Can Dance.” However, we are often disappointed by the end results of allowing the television audience to select who goes home. Needless to say, all members of our family were disgusted when Janette and Jason were sent home this past Thursday. Like the rest of America, we were awed by Tyce’s beautiful choreography but did not loose sight of the fact that, despite this amazing choreography, there was one contestant that performed outstandingly throughout the entire season. That contestant was Janette. Kaily was also solid throughout the season. It seems America failed to note that Adae and Mellisa’s first performance (the ChaCha) was weak. Furthermore, lovable Evan also failed to rise to the performance level achieved by Brandon, Jason and his great partner Janette.
Folks, it is obvious that the fans and the audience were swayed by a powerful choreography by Tyce. But we most remember that the show’s name is “So You Think You Can Dance” not “So You Think You Can Choreograph.” I am confident that Nigel, Mia, and our favorite judget, Mary, would have fought for Janette and would not have allow this travesty to occur. Accordingly, we strongly urge Fox Network and the show’s producers to reconsider the format and allow the judges to have the final decision on who goes home during the entire length of the season. After all that is what a judge is meant to do!
In order to believe Tatum, for him to make 1,136 calls/votes within a 2 hour period, he would have to have phoned in every 6.3 seconds continuously for a two hour period (7200 seconds divided by 1136 calls).
In addition, while accomplishing this herculean task, he was able to count and remember all 1,136 calls. Yet, he only employed “rapid-fire manual dialing.” Pretty nimble fingers, buddy-razor sharp mind!
The point is should the show allow computer generated calling (used by polititions and businessmen for years) to dilute the votes of others who also want a say. Everyone should be on a level playing field. Contrary to Tatum, there is no reason to allow this, only disdain for those who do.
I am very disappointed that Janette was sent home. She was my favorite from the very beginning. Janette, I hope you go far with your career. You deserve it!! You are a great entertainer.
The 100th episode was so disappointing. The fact that Jeanette was sent home reflects both America’s inability to reward true talent and the over emphasis on ‘Oprah moments’. Certainly, Ade and Melissa’s dance was beautiful and touching. However, it was unfair that they were given such important material to work with (and the others were not) especially since America always loves a good tear jerker. The dance should not have been included as part of the competition. The fact that it was, unfortunately, a major influential factor in the voting process undermines the cause and ultimately, turns it into an issue that merely ’sways the vote’. And what was Brandon doing in the bottom two? Honestly, he is one of the best dancers in the show. I was rooting for him and Jeanette to win. And even Jason deserved to stay on longer. His performance far surpassed Evan’s and yet Evan is still in the competition. It’s ridiculous! They need to restructure the voting system thereby allowing the judges to make the final elimination. I do not think that I will be supporting this show for the rest of the season as it would further reinforce the disconcerting view that at times America does not recognize talent.
Never mind the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer”– Janette should get her own show. The graceful and matter-of-fact way she accepted her elimination speaks volumes to what a professional she is. Every time she danced she lit up a stage, and no matter the style, she could execute the steps flawlessly and bring her vivacious personality to the fore. She’s intensely likable, and knows how to command an audience (look at all the people who are ready to give up on this season of SYTYCD now that she’s gone!)– Fox, it’s time you put a Latina in primetime, and Janette Manrara is your next big star– give her her own show!
As sad as it is that Janette went home, (and it is, she was one of my favoriates) it IS NOT ABOUT THE BEST DANCER!!
NOTE TO JUDGES:
Your opinion and the amount of attention you give each dancer when judging either inspires or disuades people to vote. Janette was getting little attention from you – except for the casual “wonderful as usual” statements. YOUR favorites get voted off when you don’t do your part in specifically praising them for what they bring to a performance. It isn’t just the voter’s responsibility to try to keep a performer on the show.
It is about America’s Favoriate Dancer. So unfourtunatly that’s how it is! I have to say, I am super excited that she was in the top ten, and I can’t wait to go see the perfomance (which I already have tickets for–score on the presale!!!) and all the wonderful pieces that they will dance for us. Also, because she has made it as far as she has, she will have oppourtunities, many of them. If dancing is trully her calling, things will happen for her and I believe they will.
And I think it’s sad that just because “your favoriate” didn’t win, you will stop watching the show!!
Some are saying that America picks their “FAVORITE DANCER”,then they need to change the name of this show. It is called “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” which leads me to believe they want viewers to pick the one who can DANCE BEST ,not the one who just seems or may seem to be a fan favorite.
And I am sure that most people complaining did in fact call in and vote but unlike those that take advantage and call over 1000 times,we respect the fact that we can have a say in the show. But its those people who vote 1000’s of times and abuse the voting system that makes it hard for the decent people who have respect to even make a difference.
And I for one WILL NOT watch the remaindeer of the show unless the producers bring those 2 back. Why would I want to watch a show where they let emotional votes take over the outcome??
The show has become a big let down now and they need to correct this mistake before they lose their viewers altogether.
the results were so wrong. Even though I did find Janette a bit annoying, she had NO right to hae been eliminated and frankly, niether did Jason. The fact the Evan is still there blows mi mind. Nothing against him but he needed to go home like two weeks ago. Randi carried that partnership. The same goes for Jeanine. She needed to go home. I don’t get why America is voting so oddly. It makes you not want to watch because the real talent is being eliminated. I shudder to think what the season finale is going to look like!
Janette,
I hope you get a chance to read this blog. This is my second year of watching SYTYCD. IMHO, you are by far the best all-around dancer to appear on the show this season–and you should have gone on to win the entire competition.
I have never blogged on the Web before. But after that travesty of a results show on Thursday night, I felt that I had to say something to let you know that there ARE people out here in America who DO recognize what great dancing is, and who DO appreciate your awesome talent and your positive attitude.
My favorite female dancer last season was Courtney Galiano. One thing that you share with her is that you seem to put your whole heart and soul into every dance routine that you perform, no matter what style of dance was thrown at you from week to week. And just like Courtney, you never danced a routine on SYTYCD that wasn’t done elegantly, and with an inner passion and strength that was nothing less than incredible. I absolutely loved watching you dance this season!
And of course, I whole-heartedly agree with virtually everyone else in this blog that America definitely got it wrong this time!
I must say firstly…that I too live in the central time zone and 3/4 of the program was interrupted by the Prez….so in a show where live votes count, I think this show should not count since broadcasting was cut in on…..a way to give the best dancer a fair chance.
Secondly, yes, I cried with cancer dance, it moved me…while they are not the best technical dancers, the emotion conveyed within the dance took quite a bit of talent, to be so powerful. I dont think this couple should win the competition based on this routine only though.
Lastly, some of the dancers were voted off simply because the music was horrid….dark, (the couple that got voted off, don’t remember, but I did not want to hear the music) making you not even want to watch the dance, or the routines were just stupid—russian thing? Ugh. Again, good dancers are voted on and off depending on more than just technique and dancing ability. Sometimes the blame is all on the choreography…usually a lot lately.
Why cant the dancers pick their own genres…and music…some of this music the choreographers pick is pure crap, distracting from the dance, and having no resemblence to the type of dance they are doing…come on. If its traditional dance…then play traditional music.
I can see why the cancer dance routine was a winner, but then I did not get to see the other routines, except for a couple before that….
Unfair voting when national address is coming on…and they knew it…Idol reschedules…why not sytucd?
Shows like this are most often a popularity contest. It is frustrating when you know the individual(s) with the most talent and best performances do not win.
I am still shocked days after the result show. Janette was the absolute best dancer this season. In fact some of her performances were the best since the show began. I was soooo looking forward to watching Janette dance week after week. All the dancers are talented, but it’s the ones that stand out that keep you watching. Janette would be that one!!
I also believe that one call per household should be established, and perhaps the judges should have the final say??!!
The People have spoken – A true tribute to an amazing dancer – Janette you have inspired many!!
The routine regarding the breast cancer was certainly moving. Yet, this was unfair to the other dancers. In effect. It put Aday and Melissa on safe ground. After all, no one would possibly send them home after that.
The end result is that Jeanette and Jason were voted out because of an unfair situation. What you allowed is a network rating dilema. Many people are upset that these two (particularly Jeanette) were taken off the show.
I enjoyed the show but frankly, after this I don’t know that I’ll ever watch it again. I don’t know how you’re going to do it but you owe Jeanette and the fans and she needs to come back. An unfair advantage was given causing the loss of clearly the best dancer…and it’s obvious to many thousands of viewers and potential customers of the advertisers.
Im so sad jason went home
This show has now hit bottom asking America to vote. Look what America did…voted out two of the best. I’m not so sure I’m going to watch anymore. This is why I never watch American Idol anymore. If SYTYCD doesn’t go back to the judges making the decisions, I won’t be watching next season.
I was quite disappointed to see two talented dancers go home while clearly less talented ones remained. This is what happens, however, when you let the public – with unlimited voting – decide the outcome. I despise shows with this format, so I don’t watch them at all – except this one. I watch this one because it’s Dance. Dance is different. Dance is pure. Or so it used to be.
So I turn the sound down and leave the room while they are announcing who’s eliminated because I’m fairly certain that I won’t like what I hear. This week not only made me remember exactly why I do that but also made me remember why I do not watch shows like this at all! I don’t watch because no one can screw things up like the average you and me.
How about an honest show of hands? Would any of you stop watching if the format changed to allow the judges to make the cuts after it got down to the final 10 or 12? Of course not. So how about we do it that way? Let’s keep silly saps like me thinking that maybe Dance really is still elemental and the better dancer actually stays on the show.
How can these judges come back to that set next week and say with any integrity at all, “We are looking at our 6 top dancers.”? Please. They can’t. Well, unless they are secretly saying to themselves “we are looking at our 6 top dancers out of the 6 that are lucky enough to be left.” Sadly, they will say it because it’s in the script.
For once, just once, I would love to hear Mary use her big mouth (who else hits mute?) screech in agony at the horrible decisions America made this week.
When I saw Jasson and Kayla were in bottom four, I felt so sorry that America did not even vote on the performance. How can I expect America vote on the talent to keep Jeanette?
It is so unacceptable to see Jason and Jeanette eliminated in the 100 episode!!!! BRING THEM BACK!
Jeanette and Jason???? Seriously???
I’m SO disappointed! BIG loss for the show!
I’m so disappointed, I wish I had vote 10,000 times for Jeanette.
Why go so far with the show using judges, then leave it up to
America.Boo to the show !!!
I think the show is in danger of imploding from its own success and moving to the fall season is going to increase the pressure. The voting process is clearly flawed- dancing is not something that anyone can judge for one thing- unlike singing which is far easier to assess. And the fact that the voting can be manipulated with mutliple call ins, and technical assistance which automates the process, makes the possibilities of manipulation that much higher. It is time to give more of the show back to the judges. I liked the American Idol idea of a Save. BUt something has to be done- as will be clear from the many postings above, Janette should not have been voted off (although she certainly handled it well) and Jason over Evan is a bit weird as well.
America you sure got it wrong. Very disappointing results. Hopefully the mistake will be corrected with Melissa and Evan going home next week. Janette is an amazing dancer and will surely be missed leading into the finale
i cannot believe Janette got eliminated!!!! she was clearly the BEST girl and so VERSATILE! and Brandon in the bottom two also?!!? i cannot believe it! judges should be able to overrule esp in this case! and why didnt they have a benji dance for the 100th episode??
sorry, jason.i just knew everyone was voting for you ,so i voted to keep someone else safe.i won”t do that again.
I am not watching the show anymore!! I cannot believe that the voters got rid of two of the best dancers there!! Evan or Ade should have gone home for the boys and Melissa or Jeanine should have gone home for the girls.. The judges should ultimately make the decision because apparently america can’t do a good job!!! I am soooooo disappointed!! Jeanette was the BEST girl dancer there! She never EVER did a bad routine.. People seriously don’t know how to vote.. You vote for the best dancer not the prettiest or the most handsome.. Or who you like more.. It’s about dancing not popularity..
Yes, still shocked as many of you.
Producers should do the same that was done on American Idol; each of the judges should have the ability to save at least one dancer from being eliminated, but all the through to the end.
That’s the only way the judges can somehow do “damage control” with the popularity contests and the pity votes. Because after all, best dances or more popular styles of dance, will always get more votes than the waltz, foxtrot, etc… Maybe the producers should consider leaving these out of the competition; let Dancing with the Stars do those….
Anyway, Janette was definitely the best dancer there. Shame the judges couldn’t do anything to stop it.
Work on my idea producers!! Let them be able to save an outstanding dancer!
Seriously EVAN stays? He is no where as good as the other guys.. Ade, Jason and Brandon all can do other styles, but Evan has a hard time performing them.. I’m not saying he’s a bad dancer because he isn’t but he is not as good as the other three..
I’m still having a hard time adjusting to the loss of Janette and I think it is appalling that people are able to vote 1136 times. The same person admitted voting 1106 the week before. Not at all fair.
Additionally, there are several bloggers, central time zone I believe, who were not able to see the show in it’s entirety because the network switched over to the president. This coupled with an unfair advantage of choreography deserves a re-vote.
I am hoping Jeanine takes the top spot. She is super-talented and I like that she looks like a real woman! She and Brandon are my favorites.
Wow! 218 responses and counting. Janette’s elimination was shocking and painful. Amy, Lynne, and DM, you folks are right on. Maggie H., I hear you. Mellissa and Evan are brilliant at what they do best, as are all of the top eight. But many people on this blog are saying that Mellissa and Evan do not have the versatility that other dancers have demonstrated. And I have to agree with them. Should the judges decide the final winner? Maybe not a good idea. Limiting calls to 5 or 10 per household would be a better idea. Many on this blog have already complained about judges supporting their favs. Another idea, perhaps the judges could vote and have their tally count for 50% of the weight and let the audiences vote count for the other 50%. Last weeks vote may have alienated many in the audience. And every one who loves this show wins if the ratings stay high. So maybe the producers would consider a 50/50 if other bloggers supported the idea. The best male dancer in my opinion is Brandon. The best female is so so close, now that Janette is gone, between Kayla and Jenean.
My family is still in shock! Jason we expected. Either him or Evan(love your style Evan!). But seriously, Janette??? A salsa dancer who has consistently out performed every other dancer on the show? Meslissa has been a disappointment for weeks. She has never danced hip hop, jazz, broadway, or krump. We know she can’t, so may be that is why. I and my family are truly disgusted. What a disservice to dancers everywhere!
Janette, you are one very classy young woman!!
Janette and Jason should never have gone home, period. I love Evan, and if I had a choice, I’d have him stick around till next week, then go home and let Jason and Brandon fight it out.
Melissa and Ade should have gone home. Melissa has had nothing but a pass this entire time, every style she’s gotten seems to have catered to her. I mean come on! She got a damn ballet piece to do, where Ade didn’t get to do anything in that dance.
Judges should totally have a say, and I bet you Janette (the best dancer on the show) was voted off because people are stupid and don’t want to listen to what seasoned veterans of dance have to say, so they got rid of the judges favourites.
And people wonder why I gave up on American Idol.. Don’t make me give up on this show too….
I was sorry to see Jason go. He’s a great dancer and his solo was awesome! It had such musicality to it, where the dancing goes along with the beats of the song. I didn’t want him or Brandon to go, but it is the top 8 and everyone deserves to be there, everyone is an amazing dancer. I just wish the judges would keep reminding the dancers that just because they are in the bottom 3 or are going home, it doesn’t mean nobody voted for them. Millions of people probably voted for them! So they should be proud. They should say that instead of wondering why America voted the way they did or saying “America got it wrong.” Only one person can win this competition. Anyway, this time I voted for Ade, mainly because of Mia saying his cha cha was his worst performance. I’m getting a little tired of Evan, even though he’s a great dancer, too. I just didn’t think he’d win, but I guess America’s proving me wrong. Plus, he’s holding his own and keeping up with the other guys. I just hope everyone’s not just voting for him because he’s cute. I really like Jeanine (mainly her personality) and I think she has what it takes. Plus, I really want a girl to win. Didn’t really like Kupono much. Just something about him. Plus, his solos left something to be desired. But I did end up voting for him and Kayla once. And the crash test dummy number was great! I have to say that the week Karla got voted off, I loved her solo. It was really unique and the best one out of the girls in the bottom 3. And I know Mary gets on some people’s nerves, but I love her because she shows her passion and just gets so excited about dance. It wouldn’t be So You Think You Can Dance without Mary. Or Kat. My favorite choreographers are Tabitha and Napolean. Hip hop with stories. Bleeding love, anyone? Genius! The reason I love So You Think You Can Dance is, like some judges said, it gives regular people a chance to shine and to go on to become professional dancers and choreographers. But the main reason I love it is because it shines a light on all styles of dance, as well as different cultures, and makes them fun, uses them to tell a story, and touches people’s souls.
My mom and I watch So You Think You Can Dance every Wednesday and Thursday night. Janette was our favorite dancer!! She should have gone all the way. Me and my mom believe that she went home because Mia Michaels said that Janette was her favorite. This just says to the audience that she will be fine if she gets voted out. Janette will now have lots of opportunities of places to dance, but got voted out too soon. I’m Mary Kate, 12 years old and I LOVE JANETTE.
I LOVE JASON!!!! HE SHOULDN’T HAVE WENT HOME!!!!!!!!!! EVAN SHOULD HAVE!!!!!!!! JASON WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
I DON’T LIKE JEANETTE THAT MUCH AND I THINK SHE SHOULD HAVE LEFT BECAUSE THE 3 OTHER GIRLS THAT ARE LEFT ARE AMAZING TOO
This is the first season I have watched SYTYCD, and I have enjoyed it immensely … until last Thursday night. Like most of the people who commented above, I thought Janette was the best female dancer and Brandon is the best male. It was only recently I realized that only one dancer will be chosen as the best. Why? All season long we have voted for the best couple, we have gotten rid of one male and one female each week. I don’t know how you can compare a male dancer to a female dancer – they have such different roles to play. Choose one of each.
To fix the voting problems, allow each phone number a maximum of 10 votes (in case there is a family with a land line). That will allow everyone to vote for their top male(s) and female(s) multiple times or split their vote without going overboard. I’m sure this can be done since the MLB All-Star vote limits everyone to 25 votes. Allowing the judges to “save” a contestant for a week doesn’t work, since America can still vote them off next week.
As a final note, I would say that the breast cancer piece was awesome and Melissa and Ade performed it amazingly. I do not believe it could have been done any better by any other couple. The emotion in Melissa’s face during and after the performance capture the emotion of the subject-matter perfectly. Because of their performance, I think they deserve to dance another week. Brandon and Jeanine’s “Battlefield” piece was also fantastic. I can’t imagine any other couple doing as powerful a portrayal as those two did. They deserve to dance some more. Janette was great as always. It seemed to me that Jason was improving every week. I voted once for each of five dancers. Guess I should have voted more often for Janette. I’m sure she will have a great dancing career, as well as the others in the final 8. Years ago, two other basketball players were drafted ahead of Michael Jordan – so even the experts get it wrong sometimes.
Was anyone as disappointed with the 100th show as I was!!?? I was so excited to see alumni dancers and you really didn’t get to see many at all! The anniversary should have been all about the old top 20’s and featured their accomplishments.
And the stupid Katie Holmes (lip sync) thing was a joke! This show is good because it’s not about celebrities!!! Come on, if we wanted to watch mediocre celebrity dancing we’d watch dancing with the stars.
I’ve been a huge fan of the show and I understand the voting is fair. Of course it’s a popularity contest. Did any watch the season with Benji and Travis!?? I think we should know by now the “best” dancer is probably not going to win. Just vote for your favorite and wish them all well.
Janette being sent home leaves the show without it’s best and most charming dancer. She and Brandon are obviously the best dancers. Janette’s leaving is like if Katee had been sent home last year. I guess I’ll watch the last two shows, but the heart is out of the show now. Perhaps the judges should be given a save card in case the audience loses it’s mind again in future seasons.
No wonder why this season’s dancers aren’t up to par. At least a quarter of the top 20 were rejects of last year’s Vegas round. Randi, Jason, Brandon, Janette (although I think she’s one of the best dancers among this season’s batch), and Asuka – that’s at least 5 out of the 20. Man, if SYTYCD has to start “recycling” auditioned dancers, I can’t imagine how next season will be like. Losing control or balance, not hitting the beat precisely, and not being in sync with partner have become my expectation watching this season’s dancers. There’s an obvious lack of chemistry between partners and definitely a BIG lack of “X” factor from the dancers this year. Of course, some are still better than others. I agree that Brandon is probably the strongest male dancer this season, but even so, he’s not even close to Joshua and Will from last season, Nick or Blake from season 1, Travis from season 2. In addition, I don’t even find him much better, if any, than this season’s girls (in terms of technique), such as Kayla and Jeanine. But then Kayla and Jeanine are also FAR from being at Katee’s calibre.
Sigh, all in all, this season is a BIG MISS. I have been following SYTYCD RELIGIOUSLY since season 1. I have every episode of every season recorded and I have watched each episode of every season at least 4 times (expect for this season because there’s just nothing great that makes me want to revisit).
The truth is, it’s understandable that we cannot ALWAYS have AMAZING-CAN-DO-IT-ALL dancers every season. The pool gets drained, it’s normal. BUT the judges should then GET REAL. Stop praising these dancers as if they were that great because they ARE NOT. STOP saying that it’s “getting better than better”, “this is the best season ever”, “this is the best I’ve ever seen on this show”…phony and misleading for viewers who had had little exposure to dance.
On another note, wouldn’t we all want to see a special edition of SYTYCD where we can see a danceoff between the champion of every season OR a danceoff of top boy and top girl of every season?
I’m just posting what everyone else is saying but in the hopes that someone might listen! What in the world happened?!!!! Janette and Jason???? It should have been Evan and Melissa!!!! This is crazy!!! The voting system is in fact flawed. I like the idea of the judges having more say. Either a save or like in the earlier part of the show, they choose who goes from the bottom 3 or they should pick the bottom 2 at the end of the show and let America choose who will go from those.
A breast cancer dance just isn’t fair. It was beautiful and moving but the dancing was not up to all that hype. It was subject matter that moved everyone, not brilliant dance moves and that’s just not fair. Also, I see a lot of you agree that the choreographers are not spinning out equal pieces for the dancers. It really isn’t fair. Bad songs, bad moves, bad clothes, it’s not the dancers’ faults!!! They do what they can with what they are given but come on!!! And some dance types are just not appealing and the voters are not trained so they don’t appreciate them. How can they possibly judge?
And ABSOLUTELY, Katie Holmes was bad, bad, bad!!! It was insulting to the dancers! Her “singing” was horrible and there was no dancing at all. Just some poses, a few kicks, a lot of hat grabbing and some awkward lifts that took 3-4 guys to carry out. This is not “Dancing with the Stars!” Please don’t do that to us again!
As funny as Ellen may have been, don’t you think asking someone on the show with no qualifications or dance background takes away from the seriousness of dance? These people are dancing their hearts out and rely on advice and encouragement from trained dancers and choreographers, please don’t cheapen the show just to stuff celebrities in!!! We watch it for the dancers and for our beloved Mary, Nigel, Cat, and all the choreographers. It was so so cool to see Wade dance with the dancers as Nigel and Mary have done in the past. That’s what your loyal viewers want to see!! Please don’t let this show fall on its face!!!
My jaw hit the floor when Janette got eliminated! I think the voting needs to go back to the judges b/c young kids are just playing on the phone and voting on everything but the dancing. She has never been in the bottom and has always danced her butt off. I think b/c of the fact she has never been in the bottom, people didn’t feel the need to vote for her and assumed that she would be safe. I liked the piece by Melissa and Ade and I too, thought it was touching but I think Melisa is a dark horse b/c of her age. I never thought Kala was so hot. Sure she is a good dancer, but I think Mia’s comments may have kept her safe this time. Brandon is my favorite guy. I like Evan but I think this is his last week. Ade is ok but to me he seems awkward b/c his is so big and tall. (I AM STILL P-Oed ABOUT JEANETTE BEING ELIMINATED B-U-M-M-E-R!)
I want to start by saying I love SYTYCD and have watched it since its inception.
I was very disappointed by the fact that Jeanette and Jason were voted off. My first instinct was to stop watching, as the other dancers just do not make me want to tune in, with the exception of Brandon. I am still debating whether or not I will tune in. I would have like to have seen a Jeanette/Jeanine and Brandon/Jason finale. I think the show has hyped Kayla quite a bit and it would not surprise me if she won.
I agree that America shouldn’t have the final say and the judges should have the final say. The judges are much better at dance than America.
I too agree that since we are asked to vote for couples practically the entire season, the finale should consist on the favorite male and female dancer. Men and women dance differently. So far there have been 3 male winners and 1 female dancer, which goes to show that it will continue to be a male dancer. Saybre was the first female winner, yet they do not reference her at all and she is not shown much in flashbacks or on the shows opener.
I will miss Jeanette/Brandon they were worth tuning in for, now for me the show has lost its zeal. I too stopped watching AI for that reason. I really don’t want to stop watching SYTYCD.
I dvr’ed the results show and finally got to watch it last night. I don’t know what the voters were thinking?! Jason is one of the most talented and beautiful dancers I have ever seen! I can’t believe that, after his amazing performances on Wednesday, he was in the bottom two! I was actually surprised that Brandon was too, as he is equally terrific. Either those who voted made an awful mistake, or something when awry with collecting the results! Jason should definitely still be a contestant!! Janette is also a wonderful dancer, and I was sad to see her leave as well.
Janette was pretty much Flawless the whole season! One probable explanation of the results could possibly be the fact that the hometown vote was split and could of taken the edge away from the 4 Miami contestants during the season. I think the 3 way sharing of the hometown votes didn’t help Janette. Brandon, Janean and Janette Split the votes.
How can Janette – be eliminated – How can the judges not over-ride a completely ridiculous decision – I am completely boycotting this show from this week – doesnt make any sense watching it any more – when the BEST dancer has been kicked out !!!!!
Nigel – should definitely have done something !!!!
i cant believe jason left =[. he has my favorite one from the guys
First, I would like to say that I was in abject shock when Janette left the show. Since her routine with Brandon choreographed by Wade Robson (the thieves one), she has been my favorite dancer, and no one can claim that she is weak or lacking in skill. I wish her luck with the rest of her dancing career which will be undoubtedly brilliant.
Second, I had always questioned the voting system, and after reading this blog, I was disappointed to hear that it was indeed as flawed as I had feared. A single person voting multiple times (at one point, a blogger mentioned calling in over a thousand times in a single night) is unfair, inaccurate, and does not reflect the intent of the viewers as a whole. Instead of encouraging people to vote, it leaves the honest ones without a will to continue calling in. This is a problem that MUST be seen to for the sake of the integrity of the show.
I for one will continue watching the show (rather halfheartedly), but I have yet to decide if I will bother voting Wednesday night.
Good luck to the remaining dancers. I would like nothing better than to see them prove why they are in the top 6!
The voting process has to change. One vote per each number would be more fair. This would give an advantage to those who also have cell phones though. A panel of professional judges whose scores would also count may help as well.
The dancers are also at a disadvantage if they choose a style that the voters don’t really like or understand.
I think there should be a set of five routines drawn at random that all ten couples in the top twenty have to dance over a five week period. Each couple will have a chance to do one routine a week with voting each week. At the end of the five weeks the five couples with the lowest cumulative score will be eliminated. A similar process could also work with the top ten. All ten dancers will get to dance five more routines with different partners but nobody gets eliminated till the end.
I agree that a male and female winner should be chosen. I think that the voting demographic tends to favor the male dancers.
This show has always been about America’s FAVORITE dancer not America’s best dancer so why is everyone complaining about who got voted off? I think all of the dancers have been fantastic this season and I think often times they lose out because they get a bad dance style or a bad choreographer!
I have just finished reading all of the opinions for this blog. Just like myself everyone has an opinion. I love SYTYCD, I have watched every season since it started. Every year some of my favorites are voted off…and really there can only be one winner, although I think all of them are winners in their own right.
The criteria for voting is to..vote for your favorite dancer. So when you personally vote what are you looking for? I’m sure some of us are looking at different things.
I agree that the voting process has alot to be desired, I also agree that the judges should always give constructive judgement; not just say something like…your good as always.
The 100th episode was really a disappointment, I hate to say that but I really did expect much more, and more information about dancers from past seasons.
I also agree that the “dances for causes”, ie.. Breast Cancer, as beautiful and emotional as it was; in my opinion should really be a group dance.
Best Wishes to Jeanette and Brandon it was a joy to see you dance.
Good Luck to the six remaining dancers! OK, Kayla is my personal favorite (I couldn’t resist saying it).
Did Jeanette deserve to be in the final? Absolutely! But what did you expect would happen when some dancers got to dance a touching, heart-wrenching piece and others got a granny dance? It’s not that Jeanette was “voted off” or that she is not popular (she is plenty popular); the breast cancer piece just sucked up many votes except for those who vote week after week for the same dancer (Evan — in my opinion, he and Randi should have left in week 5 but he has a huge fan base b/c his style is different). Are you surprised by the results? It’s just the way the show is set up and it’s not the first or the last time this will happen.
I love the dancing on this show but the competition is the most unfair competition I have seen. Each week, you are comparing apples to watermelons as some dancers get brilliant dances and others just some garden-variety, bland routines or odd-ball stuff. Nigel can try to convince people until he is blue in the face that it is the dancers’ responsibility to make each piece interesting. Last week Randi and Kupono were given the material needed to succeed but failed to deliver — fair enough. But do you really think Melissa and Jeanette received the same opportunity to showcase their abilities this week? Seriously?
The producers and choreographers really need to get on the same page in terms of leveling the playing field each week. It’s not easy b/c a variety of styles is displayed each week (which makes the show more fun) but it can be done. It’s fine that the first show displayed dances in the dancers’ comfort zone (except for bollywood). The level of difficulty and intensity needs to be consistently cranked up week after week. For example, quickstep is a week 2 type of dance –its rigid rules do not allow much creativity, while something like a Paso Doble or Tango can be in the hat for later weeks b/c the choreography can be more creative.
The pairs should not be able to pick the same style again until they have rotated through the main general styles (ballroom, hip hop, contemp, jazz, Broadway, and wildcard — for all the ethnic dances etc.) so you don’t have someone doing two hip-hops or ballrooms but require versatility from all.
The choreographers need to understand what level of competition is expected each week so you don’t have dancers who get to do someone’s masterpiece vs others who get the granny-dance — neither belonged on this week’s show. Choreographers can save their special pieces either for the finale or have all dancers partake. (You don’t necessarily have to have the whole ensemble dance but the pairs can each dance a part of the story or each pair can dance the same sequence in turn — which would actually work for the breast cancer piece: the same story happening to couple after couple over and over again.)
I also agree with all those who said that only one vote per phone # should count. The dancers’ popularity should be determined by the # of fans, not the #of fanatics. Fanatic voting also discourages many people who just want to cast one vote from voting.
NIGEL
Perhaps you should copy one of the competing dance shows for arriving at the best dancer(s). Dancing with the Stars only lets the TV viewing audience count for 50 % of the vote. That means the judges still have a vital say in who wins. To let Janette get bounced is unforgivable. She was Mia’s favorite, your favorite and probably Mary’s favorite girl dancer. Mary wanted Brandon to win, but loved Janette too.
Change the format of voting for next season. Also, give prizes of equal value to the top male and the top female dancers. Joshua and Katee both should have gotten the same prize last season.
You sort of gave Katee a consolation prize last season —probably to avoid the kind of criticism you are getting about Janette being eliminated last week. Face it, Jeanine is the second best female dance and Jason the second best male dancer. You guys have REALLY BLOWN IT THIS SEASON. WAKE UP BEFORE YOUR VIEWING PUBLIC DESERTS YOU!!!!
evan is definitely one of the WORST dancers left !!!!! its ridiculous that he didnt get kicked off last week. common, evan is better than jason, in whaat universe does that make sense. HE SUUCCKKKSSSS !!!! and i hope he is rightfully voted off this week. im not sure if im even going to watch ..
Yeah It is a popularity contest “AMERICAS FAVORITE DANCER” and not a contest of who is truly the more talented dancer.
But if it was abouht who es the BEST DANCER OF ALL OF THE CONTESTANTS IN SEASON 5, that would JANNET.
Anyway, I was into this season just to watch Jannet dance but she is gone so it is not worth watching anymore.
I hope she makes it big….
I agree with everyone else, the results was disappointing Jeanette should still be in the competition she was by far the best. My other fav. is Brandon.
The quality of the dancers on this year’s “So You Think You Can Dance”, has been stellar. Congrats to the judges for putting together such a great team.
Now for the bad news.
SYTYCD producers, you have a real stinker on your hands at this point.
Jeanette was your most accomplished and professional dancer, despite the fixation on Cayla. Now she is gone. Now what? What credibility does the show have at this point?
Jason may not have been your best male dancer, but he came on strong in recent weeks and was a very accomplished contributor to the show. He certainly danced circles around Evan. That being said, I like Evan. He’s still not the versatile talent that Jason was. Hey, I’m an older person and appreciate Evan’s throw back routines very much, so don’t get me wrong.
I saluted the way the elimination voting was managed when the judges still had the final sign off, of the two bottom people. When they relinquished that form of elimination, they turned the program into a popularity contest.
If this show is about popularity fine, count me out. If it’s about the best dancer, something I can’t imagine it wouldn’t be, you folks have a real problem on your hands.
Fix it!
Amen, Maria.
I just watched the TIVO of Thursday’s show. Man, have viewers lost their minds. The judging system has got to be changed next year. Make the vote shared with the judges or a weighted vote. The current system will only weaken dance respectability in the U.S. as popularity displaces talent. Nigel thinks were in the Golden Age of dance but viewers apparently aren’t educated well enough to see that and can’t be trusted. No wonder Nigel, Mary, and Mia kept quiet during the show, their anger and disappointment would have showed. I’ve got tickets when the road show comes to town and I’ve saved this seasons shows to watch again. That is all I see looking forward to at this point since I expect the viewers to screw up again this week. Oh yes, the dancers one up from the bottom were Kayla and Brandon. Utterly ridiculous.

Janette and Jason are both extremely talented, and although they are not taking the title of “America’s Best Dancer”, they will continue on to be successful dancers. Especially Janette! I’m not worried about that little hot tamale. She is incredible and I’m sure the minute she got voted out, the phone calls started pouring in to hire her!
This is so wrong. I don’t even care who wins now. It should have been Jeanette. Don’t think I can watch anymore. Someone has obviously designated Melissa, and I just can’t stomach it anymore.
The problem is with the way the show is judged. American Idol just started doing a “save” this past season. Great idea. They probably got tired of the way “america” gets it wrong most of the time because it too is a popularity contest. They were smart and avoided sending someone home that was clearly better than the one that stayed. I think the best way to judge both of these shows is to have a cumulative vote. If this was the way it was done Janette would still be on SYTYCD and Adam Lambert would be the “American Idol”!!!! Doesn’t that make a heck of alot more sense! Then you would end up with the true winner.
Janette was most definitely the strongest, most consistent, and most well-rounded dancer on the show. My admiration for her grew every week. She was always a pleasure to watch — wildly talented and totally authentic.
I don’t get it. Her short(ish) hair? Could it be that stupid and simple???
I didn’t know you could vote multiple times. That would really explain why Evan’s still in then. I think Jeanette was the victim of bad choreography and a bad partner. Evan was good enough to get in the top 10, but he should have been gone last week. And Jeanette seemed clearly the best female dancer. That really takes some of the appeal away from the show…
OMG! How in the world did Janette get voted off? She is clearly one of the very top dancers and performers. Incredible. Makes me lose faith in the program. I have not read one comment on this blog in favor of voting her off! This is utter nonsense. Antics like this will make this program lose popularity.
I am still upset about the results of last week, and I finally decided that I will no longer watch the show… I loved it but the voting is completely screwed up. Clearly the show is about popularity not skills and ability. I have watched and not always my favorite wins but at least they were pretty close in their skills. This was completely off. Not to take from any of the other dancers, but Melissa has NEVER been out of her comfort zone, someone is pushing for her to keep on top. NOT fair….. All the other dancers are good but have all been at risk and at the bottom before, Jeanette has never been at the bottom; she nailed every single dance and she gets voted off this abruptly. Something smells of rotten fish.
If the judging changes to 50/50 with the Judges making the final decision; based on great performance, Not popularity. I will return to watch, for me IT’S OVER. Good luck to Brandon, the next top dancer for me.
It is so upsetting to see these two beautiful dancers be elimnated. Evan should of been one of the first to go. He isn’t a good dancer. But that is my opinion. Come on America…..
I loved both Janette and Jason. I think Janette was the best dancer of the season. She was perfect and loved her enthusiasm!!! I’m really sad to see them go.
I loved both Janette and Jason. Janette was the best dancer of the season. Sometimes America doesn’t get it. She was great and should have won! I’m really sad to see them go.
Janette is absolutely amazing. She is so professional and she’s always having a great time. I truly was very shocked last week when she voted off, but I know she will do amazing things in her future. And then there’s Jason……can you say adorable or what?! I love him from the bottom of my heart and he deserves to be in the competition still. My mouth dropped when I heard that Jason and Brandon were in the bottom 2. I knew it was so wrong and I believe Jason should still be up on that stage along with Brandon and Ade. It’s really about time Evan leaves. Jason has to continued to shock me every week and Evan is not meeting up to my expectations. I LOVE YOU JANETTE AND JASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cant believe Jeanette left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not going to watch this show anymore! SYTYCD will lose a lot of people for this. This is so wrong. Its her first time in the bottom two and is eliminated!! She is the one that should have won!!!!! I think we should revote and bring her back.
omg jason and janette {ecspecially jason} goin home ruined the 100th episode!but now i think jeanine has a better chance of winning now that janette is gone!!!
Janette leaving was a huge mistake melissa should have been gone a long time ago she’s a terrible janette is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a better dancer than melissa melissa needs to go the fuck home and take her weird looking facial expressions with her.
I missed last week’s elimination show. I had tonight’s show recorded. I actually fast forwarded and then rewound looking to see Jeanette. I can’t believe she was eliminated. She was by far THE best dancer.
For me, MELISSA can only be a ballet dancer, she should GO HOME and join a ballet company and dance her ballet there, not here. Everyone on the show has had to do things out of there comfort zone and danced well, but bring Melissa to do anything but with toe shoes on and be a lil balerina …..and the best part the JUDGES, yes the JUDGES, praise her EVERY DARN TIME….BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO….I may not have their smarts in dancing, but I danced from 7 yrs old till I was 19 and feel I do know how to watch lines and strength and their hearts into it. So I guess the show is FIXED, I truley do….Judges rule it, calls are a joke. If I wanted to watch a ballerina I would go to the ballet. We all here in Louisiana are truley disgusted after watching tonite, well we can only assume the JUDGES will be letting this Ballerina win this competiton….You are sooooooooooooooooooo wrong, everyone did things fantastic out of their comfort zones, but Melissa, my ballerina did nothing special at all.l…..what the hell is going on with this show??????????????????? If Melissa wins, you have lost Louisiana majority from watching a show that is rigged!
Thank you for posting my opinion and opinions of ALOT of us in Louisiana. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED that they took off two dancers and they were the HOTTEST, because you had to leave MS.Ballerina stay. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Hats off to the two other girls and guys, gonna be tough, brandon rocked and Aday rocked…and although I worried about Evan, he was great tonite!
I would like numbers showing how many voted for each person and from what states? they you will see how we , down south here votes. Melissa’s gotta go!
I can’t believe that Janette is going home… she has absolutely flawless?! I am extremely disappointed. Yes, what’s wrong with the voters? Evan is still there?!
I missed the phone numbers for the contestants today, anyone have the phone numbers?
I sooo agree, only 1 vote should be allowed instead of the repeated voting. It scares me that I’ve been able to get through time after time tonight for Brandon. He clearly is, in my opinion, the very best dancer. If he goes, it clearly is a popularity contest instead of a dance contest. I also loved Janette. And I agree with everyone that Evan should not be there now.
Is it just me, or did tonight’s show totally suck. Not having Janette just emphasises how dead this show was and how meaningless the remainder shows will be. Everyone just seems to be floundering. Instead of thinking of the finalists as the top four, they really seem like the bottom four. If you recorded the 7/1 and 7/8 shows, you know what I mean. It just keeps getting worse and worse.
p.s. I also disagree that this show had the best top 20.
Evan and Kayla should have been the ones to go. She’s okay but she was in the bottom 3 a bunch of times and her solos ALWAYS suck. Evan is nice but the other guys are better dancers. Jeannette was always awesome!
I was absolutely appalled and shocked by last weeks eliminations! Janette and Brandon are my two favorite dancers and they were both in the bottom two! The competition was a little unfair last week to start with; the breast cancer routine performed by melissa and ade, though beautiful, pretty much gave them immunity for the next vote off, not bc of the dancing, but bc of the nature of the routine. Janette is leagues ahead of any of the remaining girls on the show so I really don’t know how she was voted off. It completely ruined the whole show for me. I feel like with the guys, Evan should have gone home. He’s cute, but no where near as talented as Jason was. And how in the world was brandon in the bottom two? seriously? Is America smokin crack? I think the judges should takeover next season. It is unfair that the most talented dancers are being sent home…..this sucks!
YESTERDAYS SHOW SUCKED WITHOUT JANETTE THERE IS NO ONE IN THW FINALS THAT DESERVES BEING THERE AMERICA YOU GOT IT WRONG
Janette is a wonderful dancer, a classy young lady, with and awesome talent and positive attitude. Janette puts her whole heart and soul into every dance routine that she performs. No matter what style of dance was thrown to her, from week to week she did it with passion, elegantly and strengths.
And of course, I am completely agreed with everyone else in this blog that America definitely got it wrong this time!
I hope they do something!!! Janette should still be at the show!!!
The best women dancer has left the show … personally I think Jeanine should have been booted off. Janette has never been on the bottom, but the rest of the girls have. It doesn’t make sense.
I cant believe Evan is still on the show. If Brandon or Ade get elimated tomorrow instead of Evan Im boycotting the show.
This show is becoming a joke!
Have always enjoyed So You Think You Can Dance.I lost interest when Janette was let go. She was the hottest female with the most style presence and career opportunities. the judges should have stepped in. Have no desire to watch show now.
I too am calling it quits for the season. Last year’s dancers were much more exciting than this season’s, with the exception of Jeanette and Brandon. Regardless of how many times Nigel and his posse proclaim this the “best season yet”- its just empty hyperbole. And now there’s no Jeannette – unbelievable. When I vote, as people are dropped from the beginning line-up, I look for growth in the individual dancers, or consistent excellence, regardless of what’s thrown at them (sometimes by truly DREADFUL choreography and/or choreographers). Jason is a dancer who I felt grew as the weeks passed. Jeannette was the dancer this year who was the most exciting to watch, had a super personality, and consistently excelled in every routine, always bringing something special to the stage. After the breast cancer routine, I’m convinced that there needs to be not only a favorite individual at the end of each season, but a favorite couple. Melissa and Ade are contenders in the couple category – but Ade is not really all that interesting by himself at this stage (early on I thought he’d be better off trying out again next season,), and Melissa is downright boring now. Pit them against Jeannette and Brandon – and THAT would’ve been a great showdown.
Boy, I really miss Courtney, Twitch, Josh and Katy – don’t you all?
We can’t watch the show anymore… not without Janette. She’s what made the show worth watching – she’s got all the moves and passion a dancer should have. She’s just an amazing dancer!!!!! She should have won. All of our friends and family feel the same; we just can’t watch the show without her, so we’re tuning out. What a shame.
HJB, I’m not sure how flat the 07/29 show was. I DVR’d it and have tried to watch it twice. Each time I turned the show off in disgust after the judges initial intro and comments. I was actually surprised how negatively their comments struck me.
Mary Murphy came as close as anyone to reflecting on how the public got it wrong by explaining what they need to take into consideration when voting. I appreciated that as far as it went. It didn’t go far enough IMO. The words, “Jason and Jeanette” should not have been voted off, needed to be said clearly and directly. It wasn’t.
Nigel hammed it up and acted the dufus, completely ignoring the subject. Cat Deely handed off to him after Mary Murphy’s comments by asking him an off subject question, completely redirecting the emphasis. This was contrived IMO. It said volumes.
I’ve taped all shows from the final twleve. The dancing has been stellar, but I’m not sure I’ll even wade through last night’s show, to watch it, much less tape it.
I’m quite amazed at what a loss Jeanette and Jason were. I hadn’t completely gone over to either of them yet, by way of support. But seeing them kicked off like that, when they are clearly better than others, just rubbed me the wrong way.
Count me disgusted to the max.
So I am BEYOND disappointed that America sent two of the best dancers home: Janette and Jason. The only thing that makes me not give up COMPLETELY is that they will probably have MORE opportunities now that they are off versus if they actually won. I have never called in to vote before but I am sure that the producers of the show are hoping this travesty will get folks to realize that your vote really does count. Unfortunately for them, that is NOT how I feel. I watched last night and was so completely disappointed with most of the performances. With years of dance training, I have always been right in line with judges’ feedback, but last night they gave credit where it was NOT due and did a soft pass too often. I feel compelled to watch next week, but the SYTYCD executives need to really re-think how they structure voting, because real dancers and lovers of dance (including myself) will NOT be watching after this season. Now that it is obvious that it is NOT about the dancing, but about those who can afford to spend money calling to vote (in recession times) or those who simply know contestants personally… I’m sad. I was a true fan.
–signed “A Fan No More”
Is there something written in the choreographers’ contracts forbidding critiques. Most of them this year sucked. Also, fix the voting system. Enough is enough already. I have been rearranging my life to watch this show. My daughter’s as well. I agree with all of the dissenters. Here are my picks re talent: Jeannette/Jannette best female and Brandon best male. Should be best male/female. Judge’s have final say period. It is not a popularity contest. It is a talent contest. Melissa and Evan should have been gone a long time ago. Right now I feel like voting off the entire show!!!! Think. Get it right.
Can’t help wondering why voters do not vote for Kayla. There is no genre of dance that she does not perform to perfection. IMO she and Brandon are the best dancers overall. Last night’s solos go to Brandon and Melissa.
For personality I pick Evan and Janine. It will be hard to see anyone go tonight.
I think everyone was think of the dance and not the people that wendesday night. Janette was the best by far and I think a lot of people thought so too, from what I’ve been reading. Janette I hope you are reading all of these message so that you know how wonderful you really are.
I am really disappointed about Jeanette being voted off. Too bad American viewers can’t appreciate talent, training, showmanship, and overall confidence. She had them all. Pay attention to the judges comments! They push you towards the contestants who should be in finale.
MY FAMILY REARRANGED OUR LIVES TO WATCH THIS PROGRAM. MAINLY, BECAUSE IT WAAASSS THE PUREST, CULTURAL PROGRAM ON THE TUBE. NOW NOT SO MUCH. TO THE PRODUCERS, JUDGES, FOX NETWORK, ETC. YOU WOULD DO WELL TO LISTEN TO THE AFOREMENTIONED COMMENTS RE CHANGE!!! THERE SHOULD BE BEST MALE/FEMALE DANCER, JUDGES SHOULD HAVE THE FINAL VOTE, CHOREOGRAPHERS SHOULD BE CRITIQUED AS WELL (IT APPEARS THERE IS SOMETHING IN THEIR CONTRACTS FORBIDS IT) I CAN THINK OF QUITE A FEW THIS SEASON THAT WERE POORLY DONE. MAINLY IN THE BALLROOM SEGMENTS. THE CHOREOGRAPHERS SHOULD TAKE A PAGE OUT OF SONYA’S BOOK AND PLAY TO THE DANCERS STRENGTHS. MELISSA AND EVAN BOTH NICE FOLKS SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE WEEKS AGO. JUDGES BLATANTLY USED SUBLIMINAL MANIPULATION TO KEEP MELISSA AND EVAN IN. SHAMEFUL. FINALLY, MELISSA IS GONE AND EVAN SHOULD HAVE JOINED HER. IF BRANDON DOES NOT WIN THIS SEASON YOU GUYS BETTER STOP WASTING TAPE ON SEASON SIX BECAUSE THEIR IS GOING TO BE A MASS EXODUS OF FANS WHO REALLY DON’T LIKE THIER INTELLIGENCE BEING UNDERESTIMATED AND INSULTED. LET’S FIX THE VOTING AND RESTORE CREDIBILITY AND RESPECT TO THE SHOW BEFORE IT IS TO LATE. THE DANCERS DESERVE TO BE REWARDED FOR THEIR TALENT NOT FOR RIGGED VOTING, POPULARITY, CUTENESS, SYMPATHY,ETC.
I voted for JANETTE and JASON. What the h happened??? Evan and Janine should be gone. Very dissappointed America!!!
I was shocked, disappointed, and frankly outraged when I saw these results. I believed Jeanette could win the competition. She was a truly versatile dancer who struggled beyond belief to successfully portray each individual choreographer’s vision, and did so beautifully and gracefully. Jason was a great personality and also wonderful to look at, but I can say that he was not the most technically skilled dancer on the show. However, there was absolutely no reason Jeanette should have gone home. I do not trust “America” to make the right decision anymore, and am finding myself horribly disappointed at the decisions being made. Whoever “America” turns out to be, please do us all a favor, and return my faith to this show and my enjoyment in its fairness and showcase of beautiful talented dancers.
I agree with all the positive blogs regarding Janette. I was heartbroken when she was eliminated. I felt we were sisters; I was living vicariously through her. And I also felt that her elimination was my fault because that night I was sick, I took some medicine and promptly fell into a deep sleep…I didn’t wake up until the next morning…so needless to say I didn’t vote! The one night I don’t vote, she is eliminated!! I’m so sorry Janette! You nailed every single routine!!! You deserved to win!!
I SEE I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS EVAN AND MELISSA SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE. THE VOTES SHOULD CHANGE TO ONE CALL, JUDGES HAVE THE LAST VOTE. AS FOR JUDGES COMMENTS, I NEVER LET THEM SWAY MY VOTE. COMMON SENSE TELL YOU WHO THEY LIKE AND DON’T LIKE. IF EVAN WIN THIS I’M SURE THERE WILL BE A LOT MORE COMPLAINTS. I HOPE OUR COMMENTS ARE READ BY THE JUDGES AND SIMON COWELL WHO ALSO PRODUCE THIS SHOW. THE CHOREOGRAPHERS NEED TO BE JUDGED ALSO.
A number of people have commented about the need for critiques of the choreographers and the possibility of contractual issues preventing comments by the judges. I guess Nigel came as close as he could to commenting on choreography/choreographers when that horrible Russian travesty was visited on Phillip and Jeanine a few weeks back. The best thing the show could do is NEVER use such choreographers again – surely there are others out there who’d love to work for the show and showcase what they can do? Hell, I think Evan’s brother should be given a shot at choreographing a number – I think he’d be excellent! I agree with PBUB about Sonya working really well at reading the dancers she’s working with and crafting something to fit them – the other choreographers could take a page from her book. I think she shows great intelligence, an intuitive connection with the dancers and an ego-less approach that inspires dancers to step up and shine in her pieces.
All I have to say is this: if you win the show, you win the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer.” You don’t win the title of “America’s Best Dancer.” It is a popularity contest people. It’s the dancer America likes the most and that’s not necessarily going to be the best dancer.
Thanks Bug for agreeing with me re choreographers. It is so sad that the dancers have to pay the price when the choreography is faulty. I remember Nigel’s remarks re the Russian dance. Talk is cheap. Action speaks louder than words, etc. I sense they are reading the blogs by their actions. Now they just need to take heed to the advice/suggestions they have been given by those who really care and want to continue to be supportive of the show.
They should change the name of the program to…
So You Think You Are Popular
Janette, Jason, and Ade gone, Evan still vying for the top spot.
Ouch!
GOOD ONE OB 1.
I hope to see Janette again and I will follow her in her new dance endeavors. A big loss for the show that could have a rippling effect if enough people start questioning the voting system. I say give the judges a chance to “save” a very qualified dancer from elimination.
Jannette epitomized the growth process that viewers want to see in their favorite dancers. I think other dancers got lucky with their choices and did not have to dance quite out of their range…this is not fair. Melissa’s Cha cha…c’mon really????
omg jason shouldve at least been runner up!!!come on seriously like evan needs to go home and jason needs to replace him in the finale!!!who votes for evan like really!!!he doesnt have the training and experience!!!well yes his broadway piece was ok but thats his style!!thats the only thing he can do!!!and his solos-oh no like seriously!!!he cant dance all he can do is like dinky broadway crap!!!
sorry to all those evan lovers out there!!im very opinionated!!!
This was a very dissapointing show. Mellisa should have gone home a long time ago. The first half of the season is judged by the judges on the “best dancer”. The judges are there to vote for who has the most talent, so it is not fair to change the last half into the “favorite dancer”. America should not get to vote and make it a popularity contest. The Cancer piece should only have been done for a group dance. It was not fair to the other dancers. Also, I agree that some of the choreography this year has not been good. Maybe each week every couple should do a routine in the same genre so that one coulple does not get stuck with a russian dance that will get them voted out. The voting process is unfair. There are equal guys and girls the whole show, so there should be a winner for each. Please change the voting and make the show about who is the BEST DANCER, not who is popular or gets the sympathy vote!
This is so Wrong, Janette clearly should have WON !!!
And Jason Gone !! to crazy …. I am so dissapointed in this show now
This needs to be put back in the hands of the JUDGES !!!!!
Are you kidding me? Janette was the best, and Jason was way better that night than Kayla was. Sorry if I offended anyone! But right now I want Brandon to win. I love my kitty!
I cannot believe this is true!
It is such a disappointment that Janette didn’t make it to the finals. I have been watching SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE since it started and it’s just so amazing to see great dancers. Janette is one of my favorite dancers. Of all the seasons I have watched, I believe that she performed with excellence and really danced everything that was given to her despite of the fact that she is a salsa dancer. Every genres that was thrown at Janette was performed with class and energy and it’s just very delightful to see someone with so much grace, poise and energy at the same time when it comes to dance. Anyways, I am just happy that Brandon made it all the way to the finals… something to look forward to.
But still, it is very disappointing that JANETTE got eliminated. What a shame… that the best dancer got booted off…. They should bring her back….
Just wanted to express my disappointment in the Breast Cancer piece. Not because of the choreography, nor the dancers, because I thought they were all beautifully created and executed. I just believe that it should have been performed as an exhibition routine; not in competition. I still feel strongly that it skewed the votes and contributed to Janette’s being voted off. How else could you explain someone with such a breathtaking dance style, great personality, brilliant entertainment quality and fan popularity not making it to the Final 4? Breast Cancer (or cancer in general) will tug at most everyone’s heartstrings because most likely we’ve all had someone we love battle that disease. I hope that the show’s producers do not allow something like that to happen again. It was very unfair to the REST of the dancers.
HEY, I JUST WANT TO SAY THIS HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS OUT HERE. RIGHT NOW I AM WATCHING THE SEASON FINALLY. THIS SHOW HAS TOUGHT ME SO MANY THINGS. NEW MOVES,TO STRIVE FOR MY DREAM, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY TO JUST BE MYSELF. MY DREAM IS TO SOMEDAY PREFORM ON THIS SHOW. I JUST LOVE NIGEL AND MARY. I WANT TO SOMEDAY BE ON THE HOT TAMALE TRAIN!!!!!!!!!!
What a GREAT SHOW… Incredible dancers… one of a kind Choreographers… Brilliant everything….but, what huge disappointment…. when you finalize this Fabulous-Enticing show, with a horrific concept of “One” from “A Chorus Line” presenting these great judges.
I have to say, the concept, the choreography, and presentation was just simply awful, not to mention a huge let down. I knew what was happening at the beginning of the number… that somehow the judges were going to be presented. But, the Choreography was just horrible. NO…
Michael Bennett, Thommie Walsh along with many others… including Bob Fosse… etc. had to be turning over in their grave!
What happened to the “Magic” of Style and Simplicity….
It showed the lack of diversity in the art of Dance and Choreography.
And,… it was not a good presentation of “The – First Class Judges…” [I also have to comment on the "tackieeee top hots" the judges had to wear. They should have been in "Brilliant Top Hats"! Like on Broadway... ... the Top Hats were terrible... and just plain tacky! [They were wrinkled on top or something.]
I have been dancing, singing and acting, performing since I was born. Both parents were professionals in the arts. My mother a singer, dancer and actress. Father a Musical Conductor…. and pianist and composer.
I, myself, am a Choreographer. I began working in New York at the age of 15 as an Associate Choreographer to Thommie Walsh… Baayork Lee… and of course the other great people mentioned above.
I was just in shock that that number would be interpreted, choreographed, and staged like that. The only good part was seeing the mirrors at the beginning. The judges should have been presented with much more cleverness.
HOW DO YOU RUIN “ONE” from “A CHORUS LINE…?
SUCH AN ENORMOUS DISAPPOINTEMENT!!!
Just putting in my two cents.. b/c… at that moment a lot of respect for the show… was just gone.
It was like trying to change the design of The Eiffle Tower or The Statue of Liberty. The integrity of the tune “ONE” and “A Chorus Line” was not kept.
That show is an institution in Dance! It was the first musical that was about the lives of dancers…(A “Gypsy”).
It should be presented with the same style and class.
[Why would anyone change the feel and do steps that didn't even feel good]
As someone very profound once said (going into a show):
“I don’t want to be educated, I want to be ENTERTAINED!!!
There is enough doom and gloom in this life… Choreography doesn’t always have to make a dark statement; even a lyrical or adagio.
Thanks for listening… I was just so incredibly disappointed and let down… at that moment!!! FOR ME… I WAS EXPOSED AND STUDIED EVERY KIND OF DANCE… GROWING UP… I HAVE TAUGHT ALL OVER TH WORLD… PERFORMED PROFESSIONALLY … NY, VEGAS… JAPAN, KOREA..EUROPE. I love every form of dance and singing and acting!!! I had an incredible and diverse education in the arts and music. My mother exposed me to all kinds of music….and everything in the arts; so I feel I have validity in speaking my mind.
IT TRULY LET “THE AIR OUT OF THE BAG!” Other than that… IT’S A WONDERFUL SHOW… WITH GREAT PEOPLE!!!
I live in Canada, and therefore can’t vote….but I have been sitting at my computer and read every word of every entry in this forum (The first time I have done such a thing.) (Can you spell fanatical?) because I was wondering if I was the only person who felt that a grave injustice had taken place…….I cannot express how disappointing it was to see Jeanette voted off, she is more than just a great, great dancer…she is a STAR, a bright shining radiant STAR!! What a dancer, what a performer, what a personality, what a talent, what a work ethic, what a smile, what a tremendous attitude, and what a gracious person! The platitudes, accolades, and adjectives could go on and on, and despite what I think is a great group of dancers, she, along with Brandon, are clearly the best dancers this, (Or any) year, and in my opinion, and one of them should have taken home the $250,000 first prize. (As of this writing, I have seen the finale, and I think Brandon was robbed as well….Jeanine IS a great dancer….but she wasn’t in MY picks for the top 3 women…. I wanted Jeannette and Brandon in the final two!!) Brandon is the consummate athlete and dancer, the things he can do defy adequate description…..the man is in unbelievable physical condition…and can perform incredible feats of acrobatic, fluid, agile, flexible, and strong movements…………bordering on the Superhuman!!…he performed, hands down, the best last few solos…no one else could touch him. I also catagorically agree that there should be an equal first place position and prize for one male dancer and one female dancer…. after reading all the comments…..I see there are so many like minded people, and here’s what I think. (For what it’s worth.) At first I was in agreement with most of the comments that viewers should not determine, which dancers should remain, and which should be eliminated, nor determine the outcome of SYTYCD, However, it is obvious to me…..after having read all the comments in the postings, that most of the viewers (If we can consider this sample as representing a good cross section of the population.) are indeed intelligent, and reasonably knowledgeable about dance. I, like many of you, also record SYTYCD, so that I might view it at my leisure, and watch it multiple times. It is one of my all time favorite programs…… there is something about dance that has a fundamental emotional impact, it makes me smile, it excites me, and it makes me cry…I empathize profoundly with the performers. Just reading the range of emotions here, I can see it affects many people the same way, and so I DO think that (Most) of the viewers of America are highly intelligent and descriminating, and should be allowed to vote. I DO think you get it right most of the time, IN FACT, I think it reflects a MORE accurate outcome of a deserving winner than even professional judges…b/c judges can sometimes unfairly favor a dancer because of a number of possible bias’ (For instance a certain dancer might represent a favorite form of dance, or have a ‘look’ or style from a favorite era, etc.) as can we all, and while I have great respect for their expertise, and also believe they too get it right most of the time…I truly believe, that the larger the representitive number of votes, the fairer the results are. Having said that, I believe……. again as do so many of you……. that it’s the PROCESS that’s flawed. A maximum of one vote per individual (Or as close as one can reasonably expect such a mechanism to work.) should be the goal. A thousand people voting 1000 times each can skew the results of 1,000,000 votes by a factor of a thousand!!! (A 0.001% reliability rating!) In other words it’s not you guys….. the fair minded, considerate, reasonable voters (99% off us!!) but the less than 1% of selfish, unreasonable, fanatical people (I mean, how desperate are you to want to sway a result that reflects only your own selfish opinion, that you would vote over 1000 TIMES??) I think the judges should always be involved, and perhaps have the power to overturn an obvious injustice, (And the fact there are 4 of them keeps them all honest… for the most part.)…..and as far as “fixing” the results…. It would be very counterproductive to have a “fixed” outcome, or follow some clandestine script to keep some contestants longer, or let others go prematurely, in order to advance some hidden agenda. It would completely ruin all credibility and therefore sink the show….. if it got out…..and it WOULD get out! I don’t think anyone is stupid enough to risk such a successful, money generating program to go down that avenue! I do not in any way question the judges integrity…..nor the producers, nor the FOX network. In fact, I applaud them for a very high quality program that provides a vehicle for exposure for hard working, dedicated performers that would not otherwise be available, and also for supporting valuable charities. Mostly I think the judges should moderate procedings, especially….. EMPHASIZING…. the importance of viewer votes to keep contestants in contention, and constantly reminding people that NO ONE is automatically safe….but mostly, discourage people from voting 1000 TIMES!!!!
I wish everyone associated with the program (SYTYCD) well. Jeanine, kudos to you. I know you worked hard. I still wouldn’t find my victory all that wonderful, if I thought someone better had been sent home weeks ago.
I just found it not to be enjoyable to watch after Jeanette and Jason were booted from the program. I tried to watch the next program three times. Each time the judges comments were so off putting that it angered me and I turned the show off.
I had not even settled on Jeanette yet, but when she was kicked off, I couldn’t believe how much it ruined the show for me.
I’ve been watching this program since it started. Now I can sadly say, I have watched my last show.
If popularity is how the contestants are going to be judged to win, then it makes a mockery of the whole program. Don’t tell me what a high level of dance you have, if dancing well isn’t requisite to be judged the winner.
This season proved the show to be a complete fraud. When you send your best dancer home with six people left, something is rotten.
Jeanette was the best dancer. Adios SYTYCD.
I agree with you OD1 Kanobe. I too have watched this program (SYTYCD) since it began. I too tried watching the show after Janette and Jason were eliminated, but my heart was not in it, I just gave up watching. I did want to watch the finally for I knew that Janette would be dancing with Brandon. They dance beautifully together, and I knew one of their routines would be chosen by one of the judges.
I am disappointed with this season, not too many good dancers. When the dancers performed yesterday you can really see how horrible some of them were. I mean look at last year top 10 dancers they were excellent. Gosh the waltz by Twitch and Katee was magical, as were all the routines dance by Joshua and Katee.
Katee, Joshua, Twitch, Courtney, Gev, Mark, Chelsea, Will, Karrinton, and even Comfort. All great dancers!!!!!!!!
Yes, we were rob of two great dancers in Janette and Jason, what a shame. I was hoping since Janette was gone that perhaps Brandon, or Kayla would win. Wrong!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations to Jeanine, but I don’t think she would have won had her biggest competitor (Janette) not been eliminated. However I do love the show, and I hope season 6 will be like the previous four. Season 5 sucked!!!!!!!
I love Jason, I’m so sad he got kicked off!
Jason inspired me to dance, i love him so much and i continue to watch the neclaclace dance to if it kills me over and over again!!!! i love you Jason!
