Dancers must be either a US citizen or legal permanent resident of the US, possess a current legal Employment Authorization Card enabling him/her to seek employment freely in the US (i.e., without restrictions as to employer) by the date specified in the eligibility rules. Dancers must be no younger than 18 or older than 30 years of age on the first day they register for auditions. Any dancer who is a minor in his/her state of residence must also have a parent or legal guardian sign all required documents. Dancers must provide legal, valid proof of age when they register for auditions. Check Fox.com/dance for full eligibility rules.

When will season 6 tour?
I know this is so random, but the miami date is the same day a whole group of dancers on a cruise ship have their contracts expire!
I was freaking out for them when i saw this date cause anyone of them could win the show-honestly they were the best cruise dancers i’d seen on a ship in a long time!!!
do you say break a leg to dancers (its kinda more mean than for theater kids) well good luck to everyone at the auditions!!

This is a suggestion in regards to the eligibility for this show. I understand the producers have reasons for the age requirements. However, there are many talented dancers out there who are over 30 years old.
If the age cut off was raised to 35, it would open the door for so many talented and mature dancers. Often the judges make comments about a dancers maturity. Raising the age to 35 would allow dancers who have more maturity, yet are still young enough to have the capability for the growth wanted from dancers on this show.
Just a suggestion.

When will there be audition for chicago because we have good dancers here
I cant wait for the auditions, nothing is going to stop me from auditioning this year. It’s time for Virginia Beach to show its hip hop dance talent because I know all of you know that contemporary has been the main rep for the VB, VA with Travis season 2, Jaime & Danny season 3. All of which trained with Denise Wall (i’m not downing them at all, I love all their work) I’m just saying that I hope I’m good enough to at least make it to the choreography round, and maybe make it to Vegas
I had a friend on season 4 who was a heat dancer, JEANINE MASON was one of my friends, and I knew Victor from my freshmen year! I am auditioning this season, I wanted to know the requirements!
You guys should have one of the auditions at alburquequre new mexico because we have alot of talent dancers in the duke city. Also it will sent a positive influence to all future dancers out there who are still working hard out there. So please come down to alburquequre new mexico and give every dancer a chance to shine and be famous for their wonderful talent.
Have watched the show from the beginning and the last two seasons just haven’t been that good. There have been good dancers but nothing compared to the first the first 5 seasons. Hopefully it gets better.

o0ok! i been dancinq every since i wasz lyk3 7 but i feel lyk3 iim not good enuff.But anywaysz i got ovah my fear n i trust myself dhat i can do this, the reason i feel lyk3 this its because i watch how these people dance there butt off on dhat stage n they are so0o talented and i respect that an im no0 closer to miami but im def. close to NEW YORK and iim only 17 but i will b3 18 in march(laughinq) and when im on stage i think of people in m mind saying “look at him dance” an i put even more energy in every move that im doing.

I have never seen the show before at all and I got hooked. I had every episode recorded. Season six was great! Jakob is one inspiring dancer. It made me look at dance in a whole different way. A lot of my siblings dance but I never really appreciated it. Unbelievable. Who knows, maybe I’ll do some dancing

U have to be present the first day in order to audition on the first day u pretty much improve 30 seconds based on that they give u a ticket or not to show ur solo to the judges the following day then they decide if go home to choreography or Vegas …. I auditioned last seasoon 5 in the same group as Jeanine mason my friend lol so I went unnoticed but I will be back this year at Miami once again

This season is going to be really good. They havent auditioned in New York since S3 and they found soooo many good dancers there (Neil, Sabra and Danny all auditioned in NY)
Miami, Utah, NY and LA are the best audition states.

I’m a dancer. I live in NY and since there is a NY audition, I really want to audition. You might think that there isn’t a problem here, but there is. I’m 14. I’m not supposed to audition for another 4 years, but I really want to. I’m thinking of just going for it, but my mom thinks I’m insane. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time, so I don’t know what to do. This may be random or completely useless, but I figured I’d post it. If you have an opinion on this subject, if it’s even a subject at all, I don’t know. Anyway, just leave a comment and I will check them. So, yeah. I’m Nicole, I’m a dancer, I’m confused.
Set up an audition in the Midwest region. Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Chicago. Make the bigger city residents travel for a change.

You always go to LA why not do San Diego for all the beautiful scenery that could add to the audition footage. Also what was the deal with Russells Leg being too hurt to dance but then he jumped all over the stage when he won. Not cool! If he could do that he could have danced his numbers that night. What a bummer for his partners. Jacob should have won anyway! Kathryn should have been 2nd and Russell should have been 3rd!

Alright, well I am about to be 18 and I am really pushing for auditions to be in Texas. Dallas/Fort Worth or Austin. But I am frustrated because for a while you only have New York and Miami. Please, please get more locations posted. I have big dreams and goals and this is one of them.

I assume this audition is for a summer series. Are you going to double up again like last year and have a fall show too? Important info for dancers who are in school or graduating.
I was a dancer for 12 years and now work in television production. I think that this show is, bar none, the greatest thing to happen to dance in modern time. One problem- Can we bring Mia back??? PLEASE Nigel! Just pay her what she wants and be done with it! I mean no disrespect but Mia is the most tallented person to have ever graced your stage. You MUST know that. More of that please.

Ok so this might be a little wierd…but if you audition and then make it to vegas…how long after your audition are you going be going to vegas or needed for something? I want to audition in January and also was offered a trip for a week in February and I thought with my luck I’d pay for the trip then make it to vegas and be needed the same time of the trip and of course sytycd comes first…So if anyone knows how soon after the audition process (if you make it) you would be needed. Just so i can plan things out smartly. haha. thanks so much!!

It will be worth your while to come to Oregon I guarantee. I see there are at least two ppl who are wise enough to post here in request of your attentions. I also know there are thousands more who would come to this audition if it were more local. Yes there is something to be said for the drive to go anywhere to audition and I have done so numerous times now, but in this economy who can afford it? Please come to Oregon. Another couple reality shows have been here, even to lil old Eugene, you wouldn’t want them to take all your talent prospects would you? Pretty please with a pirouette on top!

You should hold auditions in the Twin Cities. Minnesota is known to have very good talent for the arts and we never have any auditions here with the exception of American Idol for only one season.

i do have to say that this show has done more for me than anyone can know. it gave me a chance to feel something real for dance. when i was younger i always felt a strong inclination towards music and every time i heard a beat my feet began to DANCE. I wish with all my might that one day i will be able to try out for this show and give to the world a memorable performance in which moves hearts and minds. Sad to say thought the audition in New York is perfect for me except that school begins on that day and i just started a new job asking for time off would be harsh. Hopefully though season 7 will astound audiences and season 8 will be my time to shine.
I am currently in London and watching the British version of So You Think You Can Dance. If Nigel can be so kind and comment if the talent has so much disparity between the USA and UK. I have to be honest, watching any of them in the final 12 in the UK right now, I do not believe they would even make it past Vegas to Hollywood. Comments? Nigel is so very nice in context, but gee whiz Beaver, I think Wally would be slapping Eddie Haskell saying “Get a grip!”. And the choreographers are even a bit old school.
Sandita, if you are not a US Citizen, you must either be a Permanent Resident or have an Employment Authorization Card (or be in the process of getting one by April 15 – this is when Vegas Week is scheduled to begin) that is good through the end of 2011.

I believe Dallas would be a great location for SYTYCD again. When you visited in Season 4, you happen to find your season winner. Every year you have a decent amount from Texas that tend you apply in other cities. I’d think you would find a good amount of talent if you stop by once more

im getting upset they haven’t posted the other dates yet. when are they gonna get them up? i want to audition, i was going to season 5 when they came to Memphis but i had to work and made it up there too late, did get to meet the Kasprazaks though, they are a hoot. whooooa wait a minute…now im confused..ive been preparing a solo to a certain song and now I have to pretty much have 3 songs and they pick which one i dance to? how can people be prepared like that? ive been working so hard on my ONE solo and I didnt know I had to have 3!!!!

I am debating rather or not to fly from Chicago to New York to audition for SYTYCD season 7 this weekend. I have been waiting for the other audition locations to be posted because I would hate to spend all that money and find out that they will be in Chicago in a month or two. Please notify me asap.
P.s. I did audition in Chicago for Season 3 and it was one of the greatest expeiences I have ever had. Thank you FOX.
no no… you will only get to do your solo if you get a call back… the very first initial audition is a freestyle to music of their choice… IF you get a call back you will get to do the solo of your choice, to your music, that you prepared…
whats tricky about this show, and what everyone doesnt always realize, is the audition process you see on T.V isnt exactly what really happens – its a reality T.V show… theres actually 2 freestyle auditions before you get to do your solo, IF you get to do it…

technically your not supposed to post information about the audition because you signed a contract that says you can’t, kassandre.
about the music sheet: the three songs mean if they can’t approve your song then you have options.. they let you know beforehand if you your song isn’t approved. you don’t have to choreograph three solos. it’s a just in case procedure.
they put to have 3 songs ready so that if they don’t get cleared by the artists that you will have other songs that you can dance to in back up for the main one you want to have…so if the artist doesn’t clear the song, you should be prepared to dance to another one of your songs on the list…that’s what the 3 songs is.
is there going to be other places for auditions?
okay so can you have a song that’s cut? or no?
or could you tell them where to cue the music?
i havent said anything more than what is already available to the public… they just have to look for it… most people are aware of the fact that the audition process isnt so cut and dry… and what you see on T.V isnt always the whole picture…

well I think “so you think you can dance” is great this year my twelve year old daughter got a few ideas for a dance session at her school from the show and her class loved it. you give kids something to look forward too when they get older. We both love this show
Any advice on how to make it past the first round of improv?? At the last audition I just happened to be in a group of really awesome contemporary dancers and so obviously they only took a couple out of the 10 in my group. Its a little ridiculous. Luck of the draw I guess?
to make it past the first round of improv…be very very individual…do something that no one else in the group does and just let your personality come out…its not all about the dancing…it is a personality contest more than anything and that’s no joke
to make it past improv… well, you have to be you. dont try and do things you think they want to see. stand out with your personality and dance your heart out. if you really want it, your body will produce. i’ve seen plenty of dancers who have amazing technique bust out in turns, leaps, and tricks and dont connect with the judges so they get passed over. so just be you and show personality while dancing.

haha i highly doubt there are only TWO cities. miami had a really bad turnout. there were about 180 people that auditioned.
haha wow that’s really not that good considering how many people audition. hopefully sooner than later they will post up the other audition sites there gonna be at. i’m hoping to figure out when LA’s are so I can plan ahead of time, this is just driving me up a wall and back. haha… i’m sure it’s doing the same to you guys as well. =]
Is it ok to burn your song’s onto a CD or do you have to buy the album.
I hope this year that take it back to the old stage. The new stage just swallowed up the dancers last year.

Lu, we don’t know when the 7th season will air in the U.S. yet. It will probably be several more months till you see it there. You do have season 3 of the Australian version to watch though, it starts this weekend.

so now my question is when u make it to the solo audition passed the 1st to freestyles with the producer and the 3 juges when u get to chose ur music for the solo can u chose say one hip hop song for about 30 secs and change into a merengue song for the rest of ur solo’s time is that posible or just one song per solo?

Are there going to be any more cities added? I know last season NOLA was added at the last minute and we went there for auditions and had a great time. Made it to choreography and was told to please come back. I know they always go to Salt Lake, and REALLY hope they go this season! Pleeeease! There is always so much talent there, and that’s where we will be…can’t make it to any of the other places due to school schedule.
I just saw a press release from Fox saying that Season 7’s first broadcast will be May 27 (no more fall seasons?) – presumably, this means that the six audition cities listed will be the only ones, as Vegas Week really will be around April 15 (at least that’s what it says in the audition form)

Being a senior (chronologically at least) I am not prone to writing anything that may cause me to appear a “fan” However:
As a dancer and former champion (Canada East Coast) who still teaches and an entertainer that refuses to go away, I feel compelled to note that having watched as many of your episodes as possible since the inception of your program, how wonderful it makes us feel to see so many great dancers and their personal development as they move through each series. As old as I might be the choreography still moves me to tears on occasion and what you have done for dance in general is immeasurable.
I have often wondered if the largest demographic in North America and the UK for that matter; the fifty plus group, should not be given an opportunity to feel and show the spirit of dance. It would be healthy and this demographic is not only the largest but the fastest growing demographic.
Most important though is to say well done and thank for a wonderful gift you bring to not only dance but to the world of entertainment.
Hey Ritchie Fabian, check back and look at a calendar because I think you might have made a mistake on your days. The 26th of March is a Friday and not a Wednesday. Dallas is on the 10th (Wednesday) and if LA was the Wednesday two weeks later, it would be the 24th. But LA is on the 26th and is therefore a FRIDAY. I hope you get another chance to look at that.

hi, i just wanna say i am inspired by this show and i’m learning through them. i’m a filipino but i’m working in brunei as a teacher for children with autism. i’m watching this show through axn. it’s late though coz they just about to start season 6 and i’ve seen already in youtube some of their dance. anyway, i just wanna wish this show to keep evangelizing the dance not only in america but around the world. i am a PE teacher and i love dancing. i can dance but not as good of these dancers that i’ve been seeing in SYTYCD. May the LORD continue to bless the people around in this show.

Hi there! I was wondering if anyone knew or had any information at all about here being an audition in Arizona this year. I have been waiting to audition for years, and now that I can, it just so happens I cannot make the LA auditon. PLEASE HAVE ONE IN ARIZONA! Or anything closer to CA! Going back to the music stuff…basically we are supposed to bring a CD that has three songs on it that we could potentially dance to? And what does it mean they can’t be downloaded from a website? Not even something legal like itunes? And does anyone have experience with this and can tell me what kinds of songs usually get approved? I want to try and pick something that’s probably gonna work out.
Paige Adams – it depends on your age and everything and if you go there with someone that is auditioning…if you are just a parent of someone, then you can get in to watch them audition…my parents got in there to watch when i did it in LA for season 5
Cody and Paige Adams – I believe if you are auditioning, the only time someone else can come in to watch is after the first auditions… the very first initial audition no one is allowed in EXCEPT the dancer auditioning…
when I auditioned for season 3 NO ONE was allowed in… when I auditioned for season 5 NO ONE was allowed in – after the call back they told me that IF I made it passed the 2nd round of freestyles I could invite my mother in to watch my solo…
JJ – as long as its relatively clean and not overly violent its fine. my suggestion is to burn a CD with tracks by an artist(s) that are not a remix of ANY kind (self made, artist made, radio edits, etc.) – it must be the exact track made by the artist.

so if someone is underage, can they still audition?
I think not downloaded has to do with file format.
i.e. If they are using a CD player, mp3 etc… files won’t play, where a CD made from files originally on a CD will play correctly.
So if I have all three original CD’s, then I can burn a new CD that has just the three songs that I will possibly use?

To Tyler Haught-Foote: If you still haven’t figured out a song yet, try watching some dance movies to get an idea. I know there’s a song by timbaland that’s in Step Up 2. It’s hot, and I already have a dance for it in my head. lol But yea. Just watch some movies, listen to the songs, and you’ll even get a few moves too. It’s a win-win situation. lol But if all else fails, look back at the last few seasons of SYTYCD. Maybe you can think up a dance to one of the songs.

If your solo doesn’t start at the beginning of the song, do you need to cut it, or can you tell the person running sound that it’s 35 sec in?

i can finally summit comments on here. lol. well i know i already asked Kassandre Renee on facebook, but if anyone else knows, please tell me; would i be able to still audition if i don’t have a valid ID but have a birth certificate and a school ID saying my name on it? I am planning to audition in chicago and i will not be able to receive an actual valid ID on time…even if i go in at this very minute.
