That Gorram Fox

We are a bit surprised that you are already starting a campaign to save a show before it’s even begun. But then again, we are idiots if we underestimate the Whedon fanbase. It’s not like you guys have any reason to think the worst of us.

So, c’mon! Join the surging Brown Coats on Facebook. Now that you can’t collapse mini-feeds, you can spread the love of Dollhouse even easier.

Sidenote: There are some show spoilers here.

  2. Dollhouse fans already campaigning to save the show from cancellation | Joss Whedon's DOLLHOUSE FOX TV series - FANSITE - Watching Dollhouse Says:

[…] I think I was right yesterday when I suggested that some of Whedon’s fans love him more than they love his shows - I just get the feeling that whether Dollhouse rocks or whether it sucks, there are already those who have made up their mind as to he quality of the show. I just think that we as fans of good television, should execute caution before we set up ’save our show’ campaigns, because doing things like this so early will only dilute our voice when a great show actually deserves to be saved. That show might be Dollhouse, it might be Fringe..but the point is, let’s actually watch the show first, let’s actually see whether or not we like it. Let’s also give JOSS WHEDON some credit, he didn’t have to go with FOX..do you think he would have teamed up with them again on a whim? This must surely say something about the current ethos as FOX - which is different from ‘the old days’. So yeah, let’s also give FOX some credit..especially for their great sense of humour this morning! […]

  3. Michael J. Welch Says:

It’s good to see you guys have a sense of humor. :-) I look forward to the show. Thanks for giving it a chance.

  4. Donnie Says:

HAHA! It’s interesting how aware FOX is of all the crazy fans. Makes me like FOX for the first time since the WONDERFALLS cancellation.

Although I’ll be terribly disappointed if DOLLHOUSE got cancelled, it seems like the show is going to get a real chance and if it bombs like “Drive” did last year despite heavy promotion, then I would understand a cancellation.

But I’m cautiously optimistic and hope everything is going to work out.

  5. Lori Says:

Dollhouse on facebook? Yeah, I added that. ^^

It’s true about not underestimating the Whedonites… If you strike us down, we shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

  6. Nathan Says:

Haha, love that comic. I can honestly say that we do not want to give Dollhouse any negative press… we just want it to succeed and have as many fans as possible promoting the premiere to their friends, family, and maybe a couple Neilsen viewers! ;)

This isn’t a campaign stating that FOX is going to cancel the show — we know the network is under new regime and you guys are very proactive about the show. We want Joss/Eliza/Dollhouse fans to have the same attitude and not wait until it’s too late to hype the show to everyone they can! It looks like you guys are making sure of this as well — kudos!

I’m still not over Firefly. It’s no fun to joke!

  10. richard Says:

people claiming some love Whedon more than his work. Well no, we love his shows and have been burned in the past, so now people are trying to make others aware of an upcoming show (which is something the studio has no problem doing) to try and give the show a chance unlike a certain science fiction western which has since made the studio alot of money, developed a massive fan base AND made a lot of money for charity.

  11. Leslie Says:

I think it’s less of a call to start a Save Dollhouse campaign right now, and more of a call to set things up so that if a Save Dollhouse campaign becomes necessary (so if the show is both good and canceled), they can start taking action without having to spend time organizing after the show is canceled.

I’ll give credit where credit is due: Fox is very good about picking up genre shows and a lot of shows that we love might have never been produced without Fox. However, Fox is also very good at taking those shows off the air before they’ve even had a full season’s run, and I think that is the basis for why a lot of people are making the assumption that Dollhouse is going to be canceled.

  12. Sean Says:

We’ve done the impossible once, trying to do it again, and not all that eager to fall in love with a show again if Fox is going to toy with it. Like will Dollhouse be given a consistent day on which it will air? Will Dollhouse be shown in order or will Fox mix up the order for fun?

  13. InDesignKat Says:

This is interesting, but somewhat offensive. It implies that we don’t care if the show is good, only that it’s from Joss. So far Joss has hit a home run every time, so it’s hard to say, but we don’t yet know this won’t suck.

In response to the person who mentioned Drive as a bomb- it was cancelled 10 days after the premiere. Not 10 weeks, nor 10 episodes, 10 days.

The only show run by Whedon or Minear that I didn’t like was The Inside, but having now gone back and read the scripts (timminear.net) it’s actually very interesting. Not my style, and a bit graphic for prime time broadcast, but the story drew me in after I read a couple episodes. I have no doubt that it would kill if they ran it again as a new series, considering the success and accepted gore of shows like CSI, Criminal Minds, etc.

Firefly was outstanding. I saw Bushwhacked and felt so-so about it, then saw Our Mrs. Reynolds and Jaynestown and was hooked. Then I saw Out of Gas and absolutely fell in love. I’ve never been moved by a television show the way I was by Firefly.

I’m looking forward to Dollhouse, but I won’t be petitioning for it to be saved without ever having seen it.

  14. Mike C. Says:

I’m about done with television. Nothing intrigues me lately. Hopefully this will be something worth Goram watching.

  15. cgeye Says:

What the heck is wrong about being an organized promotional force for shows that have to fight tooth-and-nail for national attention?

And even if the show has a rocky road, at first, didn’t the best shows need a season to get their feet under them — a luxury this market does not afford? I’d rather have a group of proselytizers up front with their love, than trying to wage a rear-guard effort when programmers have made up their minds.

As the ineffable Mel Brooks wrote, If You Love Me, Love Me Loud.

  16. Charlie Farley Says:

Wonderfalls, Arrested Development, FIREFLY, Drive, The Visitor, Millenium, Family Guy, Harsh Realm, Titus, Space: Above and Beyond…

I could go on. They all had promise, but Fox lacked patience and faith.

I think starting up a Save the Dollhouse campaign before it even comes out, is an excellent way of making a point to the folks at fox.

The two real heartbreakers for me were Firefly and Wonderfalls. Both incredible shows. Buried long before they should have been.

  17. Kaj Says:

As mentioned above, the comic is from http://www.hijinksensue.com

We have been pointing out the delicious irony of a Fox blog publishing art from another copyright owner without initially crediting the work…. as well as leeching the image from the website owner. I think the best part is when you quickly add a link to the website after the owner points this out.
OTOH, The title of this point shows a lot of humor on your part. Now, if Fox will just bring back Firefly….

  18. zeitgeist Says:

I’ve now officially worn out my copy-paste trying to point out the resume of folks like Kevin Reilly who have been responsible for keeping great TV on the air and who are now in lofty positions at the new (and cheekier!) Fox. I truly think that this network is the best place for a quality show to be. Yes, I am one of the people who was making light of the Save Dollhouse campaign when we linked it at Whedonesque.

  19. PJ Says:

It’s Fox - you are in it for right wing propaganda and big bucks - Whedon is neither - of course its going to get canceled fairly quickly.

  20. Dee Says:

I agree with Farley completely. I was absolutely devastated about Wonderfalls and Firefly. Many Whedon fans, I suppose, put their absolute faith in Whedon, which is most likely why for the petition for the show before the show has even begun— and very little into FOX because well, time after time Fox has let us down.

While many shows you’ve canceled have not necessarily catered to the mainstream, there is always that obsessive cult following that actually appreciates media that makes you–think. Please, help our sad failing society stop giving way to reality shows and let us watch something….you know, good. For more than one season.

Oh please. The only network worse with hasty cancellations than FOX is ABC!
What you did to Firefly and Millennium was criminal! I’m shocked that as skilled an episodic storyteller as Whedon will even have anything to do with you at this point.

  27. Scott Ellington Says:

FOX has made a name for itself as a network that consistently fails to promote its products to a global audience that desires those products.

It’s also become a brand that inspires mistrust for other valid reasons that include the tendency to jealously guard against the promotional efforts of grassroots agents to do what FOX cannot; promote FOX products to an impatient world.

Right-wing propaganda and disinformative news&entertainment wouldn’t be quite so objectionable if FOX proved itself capable of supporting branded products that people actually want.

FOX Broadcasting and 20th Century Studios inspire a profound lack of confidence in buyers who been roaming for years. Claiming a new sense of humor about persistent failings doesn’t quiet my fears that the New&Improved regime is just more of the same old incompetence hoping that HULU will salvage what FOX can’t deliver…a loyal audience. Dream on.
